The first step is to call or email us, and make a
consultation appointment. We will collect some basic information about your
project, such as room type, design concept, and timeline. Then we'll schedule a
meeting with you, at the location where the work will be done.
At our first meeting, we'll discuss your project, and look at colors and
styles. We'll bring a color deck, to help with color choice. Sue will bring
sample boards or a portfolio for design ideas, but each of her designs will be
unique and individual in some way.
Sue will create a finish that will fit your lifestyle and design concept. We
take notes, and measure the area, so that we can provide you with an estimate
for the cost of the project. Each technique involves different products and
labor costs, so a firm price will be quoted when you have made your final
decision on the area, color and faux finish to be used.
- Do you charge a
consultation fee?
Sample boards are required for each project and there is a
fee for custom sample boards. Should
you choose a sample directly from the portfolio and no customized sample needs
to be made, there is a consultation fee which will be due at the consultation
meeting.
- Do work with new
construction?
Of course! If your project is new construction, we can look
at the blueprint and design plans and visit the job site to determine the best
course of action. The time frame will fit within the existing build plan of your
contractor.
- How do I get my project on
Sue's schedule?
A 40% deposit and signed contract are required to schedule and begin the project.
- Will I see a sample of my
design?
Absolutely! Sue will create a custom sample board for your
project. She will not begin with the application until you are happy with and
sign off on the sample board.
- Does Sue Kauffman only do
interior walls?
No, Sue can also work with exteriors, flooring, furniture
re-finishing, wood graining, mirrors, wall hangings, canvas, etc. She can also
create decorative art work.
- What do I need to do before
the project start date?
If possible, remove any breakable objects and artwork and
store them in a safe location. Please have the furniture placed in the center
of the room and remove wall hangings from the walls. We will cover the floors and furniture to avoid any damage.
Sue will discuss what type of base coating is required. In some cases it will
be necessary to have an area prepared by an outside contractor prior to
beginning the project. Any preparation requirements will be discussed and
outlined beforehand.
- Can I use the room while the
project is in progress?
In most cases, yes you can. We will clean up at the end of
each day, and store our supplies in a designated space for as little disruption
as possible. For some slow-drying finishes, we may ask that you not use the
room for a day or two.
- How long does a project
usually take?
Every project and every space is different. Typically, a
single room takes between three to four days. The number of layers and
difficulty will determine the exact length of the job. Drying time is also something
that can't be rushed.
- Will the walls look exactly
like the sample?
Since the sample board is typically a 2 ft. x 2 ft. board,
you should expect slight variations. Existing texture can play a role in the
overall look, but we try to get the sample as true to the project as possible.
Keep in mind that this is hand finished unique artwork. We always make sure you
are satisfied with the end result.
- How far will Sue Kauffman
travel?
There really aren't any boundaries to Sue's work range. She
is willing to travel anywhere is the United States and Canada. Travel expenses can be rolled into your
quote.
Sue creates your design and sample boards and she will
complete your project. However, she may have apprentices who assist her with preparation
work and cleanup.
The cost of the project is divided into three payments. 40% is due at contract signing and booking
of the dates, 30% on the first day of work and the remaining 30% due on the
final day of the project prior to Sue's leaving your property. Sample fees are required at the sample board
consultation.
