A Note from the Artistic Director

Come on along and listen to.....the fabulous women of the OCWC, as we take to the stage for our most diva-licious performance yet!

I walked down Broadway just last week, during a trip to New York with another of my choral ensembles, and was seduced anew by its glitzy charms: the lights, the colors, the catchy tunes, the promise of fun and fantasy. We can't take you all the way to New York, but we're practicing overtime to bring the delirious din of the stage to you, right here in Orange County! It's a one-night-only feast of song, food, drink, and the chance to bid on fabulous gifts while supporting the OCWC.

Musically, we'll take you from the smoking parlors of long-ago Spain (the "Chorus of Cigarette-Girls" from Bizet's Carmen) to 1960s Baltimore (two kicky selections from the hit musical Hairspray), from 42nd Street to Putnam County. You'll hear the OCWC as you've never heard us before, and just wait until our soloists step to the microphone---trust me, you'll be laughing, crying, and wishing the night could go on forever.

Still not convinced? Don't forget that you'll be enjoying all this while devouring exquisite desserts and sampling wines from ONEHope Wines, who will be on hand for tasting! (For more info about ONEHope Wines, see www.onehopewine.com.And our silent auction, featuring gift baskets and items including a gift card for Spa Gregorie's and tickets to a play at the Laguna Playhouse, lets you stock up on amazing merchandise and help the OCWC prepare for our exciting 15th season.

Grab a friend---or two or three---and get set for a rip-roaring close to 2011-12. We'll bring the "hip hooray and ballyhoo"; all we need is you!

Build the Future with the OCWC!

We are committed to bringing you extraordinary women's choral music of the highest standards of artistry in intimate venues that are accessible and affordable. Supporting women in music is a high priority for us, and we live out that part of our vision by commissioning new music for the treble repertoire, offering conducting internships to promising young women conductors, and offering sponsorships to women who cannot commit to the suggested financial donation we ask of our singers.

Our ticket prices are among the lowest in the area, generally ranging from $10 to $25. They provide just 20% - 25% of our total revenue. Corporate contributions and foundation funding provide another 10% to 12%. We rely on the generosity of our singers, board members and individual donors like you to provide 70% of our funding. We invite you to join our family of donors today to support our 15th anniversary season and the foundation for our future. Click on the image to make a donation now.

Meet a Soprano:  Kate Carver

Singing was incredibly important to me from a very young age. I joined my first choir at the age of 6 in primary school and have never stopped since! I have fond memories of singing in concerts and musicals at school---my favorite performance was being a singing nun in The Sound of Music! I sang in several choirs at school and university, as well as community choirs and larger mixed choirs in Nottingham and Sheffield.

I was born in Birmingham, England, and lived in the West Midlands until I went to the University of Sheffield. After that, I lived in Nottingham until my husband Nick and I moved to Orange County in September 2009, when he accepted a position with Blizzard Entertainment.

I was desperate to find a local group as soon as we got here. I had always sung in mixed choirs before, but as soon as I heard the OCWC at their December 2009 concert, I knew I had to be a part of this wonderful group! I am very grateful to everyone in the chorus for making me feel so welcome since I joined just over two years ago. Living so far away from friends and family in the UK can be quite isolating at times, so I consider the OCWC my second family! It means a lot to me that I have formed strong friendships through the chorus, and the weekly rehearsals, as well as the concerts, have given me a great outlet. I missed rehearsals so much when I was on sabbatical after having my son Alex last July---I just couldn't wait to get back!

In 2010, I filled in as Auditions Coordinator for OCWC, which I'm looking forward to taking on again this year. I have also helped organize volunteers for OCWC fundraisers. Before I had Alex, I volunteered at my local library and as a Proliteracy tutor for the ReadOC adult literacy program.

I feel very lucky to have found the OCWC. Being part of the chorus is not only wonderful from a musical perspective, but it has also become very important to me due to the friendships I have formed and the motivation I get from being part of a group of such strong, talented, and passionate women. I particularly want to thank Eliza for allowing me to join and for being a real inspiration to me!
