Hispanic-Latino Workshop-
July 7

*Hispanics are the nation's largest growing population in our nation

*The United States is the third largest Spanish speaking population in the world

*The Hispanic population grew 88% between 1990-2000 in
Chester County (vs. 58% nationally)

Service agencies and ministries must be prepared to serve this unique and rapidly growing population. Chester County Womens Services Medical will host this special one day training to teach us how to understand and serve the Latinos/Hispanics in our community. Pastor Carlos

Reading in the Park

READING IN THE PARK

Music in the Meadow-
July 11

For the third consecutive year, Music in the Meadow will be held at Maple Grove Mennonite Church on July 11th beginning at 2pm.

Music in the Meadow
is an afternoon musical event of 8-10 live bands, delicious food,sing-a-long
music and fun fellowship!

The concert finale will be The Birdsong Family whowill perform at 7pm. The Birdsong Family is a young, multi- talented, family
band of nine, who have performed at Dollywood family theme park in Pigeon Forge, TN. and Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, as well as Gospel Music Television and many churches and concerts all over the USA and Canada. The Birdsong Family has become one of the most diverse Christian groups on the local circuit, performing everything from gospel-tinged bluegrass to full-on electric guitar-driven Christian rock .

Currently held outdoors in the meadowbehind Maple Grove, Music In the Meadow originated in the 1930s on the Kennel property in Atglen, PA. All are invited to enjoy the music in the meadow!

Help Yourself, Help Your Neighbor: Get Informed-
July 15 - Sept 15

On Thursday, July 15, 2010, the Chester County Commissioners are announcing new initiatives that are available to assist the community and resources that encourage financial stability in the City of Coatesville.

The "Help Yourself, Help Your Neighbor: Get Informed!" kick off event, hosted by the Minister's Alliance of Coatesville and Vicinity, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, located at 819 Coates Street in Coatesville. On-site parking is available and refreshments will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m.

This event will highlight community resources and financial matters, as well as celebrate a summer mini-series of informational events hosted by the churches of the Coatesville Area. All members of the community are invited to attend and learn about opportunities that may provide solutions to some of their financial needs.

Habitat Homeowner Orientation-
July 21

Habitat for Humanity of Chester County will be holding an orientation class on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 6 p.m. at Life Transforming Ministries, located at 643-645 E. Lincoln Highway (next to the Fluff & Fold) in Coatesville.

Things to keep in mind before you attend this class:
o     In order to apply for a Habitat for Humanity house, you have to attend an orientation class
o     In order to qualify, you must earn between $23,000 and $62,000
o     All applicants must work in Chester County
o     We are currently looking for homeowners for 6 houses - all of which are located in Coatesville
o     Construction will begin on these houses later this summer - with a move in date of Fall, 2011

Convenient College Degrees- Apply by July 16!

Life Transforming Ministries is actively recruiting those interested in earning a college degree through the College in Coatesville partnership with Harcum College. Through this opportunity students can earn an Associates Degree through Harcum by attending classes two nights a week at the Open Arms Transformation Center (643-645 E. Lincoln Hwy.) in Coatesville. Available degrees include Leadership Studies and Human Services. Classes start the week of August 23rd.

No money for college? Call about how to apply for financial aid that can make your dream of earning a degree a reality. All eligible students can receive PELL grants and other forms of financial aid to attend. Apply for the grant by completing your FAFSA online. Applications to enroll in either degree program will be accepted untiil July 16, 2010.

Vacation Bible School- week of July 26

Vacation Bible School at Olive Street Presbyterian Church opens on Monday, July 26. The annual 5-day program includes a full week of Bible-based education, adventure, and activities for children, pre-school through 6th grade. The theme is "SonQuest Rainforest"; following Jesus on a life changing adventure.

The school runs from Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30, with our ice cream social and closing program taking place on Thursday evening. Starting time is 9:00 am and pick up is at noon. Monday doors will open at 8:30 for registration or you can pre-register through email at ospcvbs@verizon.net. Registration is free. Please send child/s name, age, grade entering in the fall, parents' name(s), phone number, address and email address. You will be sent a confirmation email with your info and a medical release form that needs to be emailed back or returned the first day of VBS.

Activities include opening assemblies, Bible stories, themed snack, crafts, recreation and daily centers. The children will enjoy making new friends and seeing old ones from previous VBS, while learning about how we can follow Jesus.

CPR-3 Summer Trips to Haiti- Now

CPR-3 (CPR- Crisis Preparation Readiness) (3- Pray, Give, Go) partner's people, organizations and churches with communities of people affected by crisis or catastrophe's that utilizes our God given gifts to serve one another.

Their vision is to see these partnerships established from the local church with organizations that are on the ground to come along side of nationals and ignite a passion for missions in the church that seriously and proactively engages the church to care for the 'overlooked.'

Their plan is to empower local church leaders to identify and implement sustainable solutions to the physical and spiritual needs within the communities of the overlooked. This plan includes Crisis Preparation Readiness, Training and a plan for the rapid and ongoing deployment of teams to care for those who are overlooked.
