Thanks to all who took time, in thick of summer fun in the Flathead, to speak up for the future of this great place!!!!!!! 800 written comments; now that's an impressive showing of passion and a strong voice saying NO! to more commercial sprawl in the Flathead! And WOW... many of you took time to add heart-felt and important comments as well to the letters, emails, and postcards you sent! Keep it up!! While the official comment period ended on July 5th, it is likely that the commissioners will not meet for at least another week to make a final decision on this zone. It will take the county staff some time to compile an official tally for the commissioners. If you haven't already commented it doesn't hurt to go ahead and send a written note to the county commissioner. We encourage you to ask them to not to adopt this zone known as B-2HG. Your comments will not be part of the official public comment record, but until the county commissioners make their final decision the public should keep taking the opportunity to send in comments and let the commissioners know your concerns and vision for the future of the Flathead. The Flathead County Commissioners are considering adopting a new zoning policy (click here for details) that would allow and encourage highway strip commercial sprawl along ALL majors roads in the county. Planners we have contacted across the country agree, the proposed new zone is ill conceived and a formula for economic disaster because it allows strip commercial development over time to redefine the Flathead as just another endless strip of Anywhere USA sprawl. A place no one will want to visit, invest, or live in. If you live in an existing home near any of these roads you may find 35 foot tall blank walls and noise right across your once rural and scenic property line. Follow these easy steps:
1. Cut and paste the following statement into an email to the Flathead County Commissioners. Include your full name and address.
Please accept my protest to the adoption of a new county zone known as B-2HG. I do not support this zoning policy which encourages strip commercial development along all major county roads.
