Wanted: Action Against Obesity
ACU is gathering information from its members on steps they are taking to combat obesity in their communities. If you or your clinic has developed a community partnership or program, please send an e-mail to Kathie Westpheling with a brief statement about what you are doing. ACU is mobilizing to take part in First Lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign to fight childhood obesity. The four-pronged approach taken by the "Let's Move" campaign addresses some of the challenges faced by children from families with limited resources.The work that many ACU members have been engaged infor years may help to inform this new campaign as it relates to strategies most effective in the underserved community. |

CNN Highlights ACU Member
You can view CNN's recent story on federal stimulus money for community health clinics on ACU's Web site. The report featured ACU member Dr. Rishi Manchanda of St. John's Community Clinic in Los Angeles. Manchanda said, "The federal stimulus helped expand access to primary care for millions of Americans by supporting community health centers like St. John's and by doubling the current size of the National Health Service Corps. ... While it was a big step forward, there's more work to be done."
The piece aired January 26 on CNN's 'American Morning' show.

MedlinePlus Now Available for Mobile Devices The U.S. National Library of Medicine announced the release of Mobile MedlinePlus designed for use on mobile devices. It includes summaries for over 800 diseases, conditions and wellness topics as well as the latest health news, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, and information on prescription and over-the-counter medicines. A Spanish version is also available.

Putting People to Work in Health IT - Fast*

If the adoption of electronic health records takes off in hospitals and ambulatory clinician offices as the Obama administration hopes, there will be a huge demand for new workers trained in health IT. David Blumenthal, MD, national coordinator for health IT, estimated in October 2009 over 50,000 new jobs would be needed.
