The Bed & Breakfast Experience by Siiri Grubb
Built in 1750, the Peace With-Inn Bed & Breakfast is able to combine its rich history and authentic country style with the upscale modern amenities we come to expect. The expansive guestrooms define country elegance with their rich and tasteful décor, which is continued into the large adjoining bathrooms fit for a queen. The Jacuzzi tubs, flat screen TV's, and on site spa and massage therapist amenities one does not often find in a 257-year-old homestead nestled in the woods of Fryeburg, Maine.

As a Communications Intern at the Mt. Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce, I was asked to stay at the Peace With-Inn Bed & Breakfast and share my experiences for the E-Traveler. As a 20 year old, the B&B experience was never one that I considered, in that I was worried I would be staying in a private home surrounded by older couples and forced to share a bathroom. A Bed & Breakfast for me conjures up images of older retirees sharing pictures of their grandchildren while being in the constant company of strangers; however, all that has changed. Once I arrived, my apprehensions were put to rest as I was greeted by the friendly and attentive staff, asked to a cocktail hour and whisked away to my relaxing massage. I later relaxed in one of the many seating areas and curled up to my favorite book without interruption. I was in awe as I entered the bedroom-sized bathroom and found a Jacuzzi tub big enough for two, and the queen-sized bed and fireplace trampled what was left of my misconceptions of a small cramped Bed & Breakfast. The family-style breakfast served in an elegant dinning room in the company of young and middle aged couples was anything but boring as we discussed all aspects of life and our shared love for the area, which lent to a wonderful end to my relaxing retreat. The Peace With-Inn takes you to such a fantasy land so full of indulgence that I found it hard to come back to reality. Although I am a native and live in this beautiful area, I would not hesitate to go back to the Peace With-Inn.

First published in 1998, The White Mountain Ride Guide takes riders of all abilities along rolling country roads, through mountain passes, down smooth singletrack and beside the region's beauty. The new updated and expanded 2007 second edition includes new rides and maps. Each route in towns including Bartlett, North Conway and Lincoln, Littleton and Franconia, comes with mileage, difficulty, easy-to-read map, narrative, cycling directions and driving directions to the starting point. Cyclists will find helpful tips on getting the most out of each spin through the White Mountains. According to a review from The Mountain Ear, Mt. Washington Valley's weekly news and entertainment guide, "The biggest improvement is the maps; an accurate map by Larry Garland, AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club) cartographer, accompanies every ride description. The maps alone are worth the price. "What makes the book interesting and useful is the variety of rides: road rides, off-road rides, and back-road rides."
