We’re in the heart of the Harvest to Holiday season here in Mt. Washington Valley. Goblins and gorgeous leaves have given way to holiday gift previews and Thanksgiving getaways. It’s always a magical time in the Valley as we count down to the holidays. Ski resorts are readying to open and shops, inns and restaurants are pulling the holiday decorations out. It’s the perfect time to steal away for an escape to Mt. Washington Valley. Quiet time rates are found throughout the Valley, and Harvest to Holiday shopping packages add plenty of value.

If you’re looking to avoid the mess in the kitchen, come for a relaxing Thanksgiving getaway. Many restaurants throughout Mt. Washington Valley are offering special Thanksgiving dinners. The food promises to be scrumptious and you can leave the mess behind at the table.

    Lodging Properties to Feature 13 Resort Interchangeable Ticket in Ski & Stay Lodging Packages
    Skiers asked for it, and they’ve finally gotten it. The thirteen ski resorts and cross country centers of Mt. Washington Valley, NH will partner with lodging properties throughout the Valley to offer ski & stay packages featuring a midweek ticket good at all seven alpine ski resorts and six cross country centers in the Ski Mt. Washington Valley consortium . Now, skiers will enjoy the freedom to choose any of Mt. Washington Valley’s award-winning ski resorts when they stay with participating lodging properties midweek. That’s not all, the same pass will offer all cross country skiers rentals and a group lesson, along with a trail pass. Home to more than 250 alpine ski trials and over 450 km of cross country skiing, not to mention 200 outlets, boutiques and shops, and more than 70 restaurants and après-ski options, Mt. Washington Valley is New England’s premier ski and stay destination. Recently named “one of the ten coolest ski towns in America” by Men’s Journal, North Conway and the surrounding villages and towns look forward to welcoming skiers seeking plenty of fabulous skiing, and freedom to choose from thirteen ski resorts.

    Packages featuring the new interchangeable ticket will be offered Sunday through Thursday nights from January 2, 2006 - March 16, 2006. The only blackout date is during February vacation week, February 19- 23, 2006. Participating alpine ski areas include Attitash, Black Mountain, Bretton Woods, Cranmore, King Pine, Shawnee Peak, and Wildcat. Nordic options include Bear Notch, Bretton Woods, Great Glen, Jackson Ski Touring, King Pine, and MWV Ski Touring.

    To date, more than 35 lodging properties have signed on with ski and stay packages featuring the ticket. Skiers have their choice of cozy B&Bs and country inns, budget motels, or full service resorts all offering the interchangeable midweek ticket with ski and stay packages. The interchangeable ticket is good Monday through Friday, and is only offered through lodging packages, and is not available for purchase at any participating ski resorts or cross country centers.     Porky Gulch Classic Bike Race at Auto Road, Great Glen and Story Land
    November 5- 6
    Bikers, here’s a fun one! This three stage bike race taking place over two days will take competitors through three of New Hampshire’s most popular attractions. Starting at 10 am on Saturday, November 5, the weekend kicks off with The Prologue held on the Mt. Washington Auto Road. This is a timed race from the base of the Auto Road to 2-Mile Park, and involves some of the steepest grades on the Auto Road. The stage will be held as long as conditions permit. Stage Two follows as riders head down to Story Land, 10 miles south on Rt. 16 in Glen for the Story Land Crit. This will be a timed race on laps through Story Land. The rider with the most laps wins the stage. Beginners will race at 2:00pm for 30 minutes; Intermediate and Advanced will go at 3:00 pm and race for 45 minutes. Story Land will be closed to the general public. Then, Stage Three will be held on Sunday at the Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, The Rockpile Rampage Cyclocross is a mix of single track, carriage roads, pavement and an obstacle course using a mountain bike or a cyclocross bike.

    Points will be awarded by finish order in each stage. The rider with the most points wins the two-day event. Registration and information for the Porky Gulch Classic Stage Race is online at Great Glen Trails .

    Families, Ride the Conway Scenic RR Holiday Express
    All aboard for the annual Holiday Express, November 25-27, 2005. What a perfect family treat if you’re in Mt. Washington Valley celebrating Thanksgiving.     Old Fashioned Thanksgiving Instills Gratitude for Modern Conveniences
    Bring the kids and visit the Remick Country Doctor Museum and Farm on November 12, from 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm and learn about where our modern Thanksgiving traditions began. Tour an exhibit on the history of this important holiday. Learn how to pluck a turkey. Sample the flavors of the season while watching interpreters prepare traditional foods on the hearth using historic recipes. Get in the holiday spirit and join in for an afternoon of good family fun, a warm fire, and a little bit of history. This event is free and open to all ages.     Veterans Day in the Mt. Washington Valley
    Mt. Washington Valley has always taken Veteran’s Day seriously, offering a yearly solemn and reflective celebration. As Americans grapple with concern about Iraq and world affairs of peace, this small New Hampshire community celebrates those that have served to protect the inalienable freedoms that are the core of America’s foundation. Perhaps this year more than ever, Mt. Washington Valley’s Heroes Day Of Honor on November 11th will offer solace for those touched by wars present and past. Mt. Washington Valley’s Veteran’s Day celebration will include a memorial service, a parade, flag ceremonies, and rifle volley, All veterans are invited to take part in the events of the day at no cost Additionally, lodging properties have come forward to offer special packages to Vets and their families.     BPW Presents “It’s All About You!”
    If your schedule allows you to be in the Valley during the week, Tuesday, November 8th the Mt. Washington Valley Chapter of Business and Professional Women (BPW) will present a wonderful evening for women’s networking at Flatbread Pizza Company, in the Eastern Slope Inn, North Conway.     XC Skiers – Here’s Your Change to Buy and Sell Equipment
    Mark your calendars for the annual JSTF Ski Swap, November 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jackson Ski Touring Foundation, in Jackson, New Hampshire will be celebrating a “Kick-Off Day” for the cross-country ski season on Saturday, November 12th by hosting a Nordic Ski Swap and Sale. This event will offer skiers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to purchase quality cross-country ski equipment and gear at bargain prices. For those looking for other savings, the Nordic Skier Shop, in the Jackson Ski Touring Center, will be holding an early season sale on winter items. Zach Caldwell of Engineered Tuning of Windham, Vermont, will again have his mobile stone grinding equipment on site to work on performance skis, and will be doing a “Ski Prep and Maintenance Clinic” from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. For skiers wishing to rid their garages and closets of equipment and clothes in good condition, Jackson Ski Touring will be accepting items November 7 – November 11 from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Items should be tagged with asking price, name, address, local phone number and e-mail address. Please note that due to a lack of storage space, any unsold items will have to be picked up on Saturday afternoon at the end of the sale.
