It’s fair to say that October is possibly
the most
glorious month of the year in Mt. Washington Valley.
No where in the world does Mother Nature show her
talents for gorgeous landscape artistry than in Mt.
Washington Valley. This is the time for peak foliage,
fall festivals and fairs and wonderful getaways to the
White Mountains of New Hampshire. We look forward
to welcoming you to the Valley for what promises to
be a spectacular ... and even “spooktacular” time in
our little corner of New Hampshire.

Return of the Pumpkin
People
The pumpkin people are coming, the pumpkin people
are coming! Area businesses and homeowners get
into the fall foliage spirit and create unique, colorful
and playful pumpkin people throughout the village of
Jackson and surrounding towns for leaf peepers to
see October 1-20th. Sponsored by the Jackson Area
Chamber of Commerce, this event attracts visitors to
these villages to take the self-guided tour of the
pumpkin people. Maps are produced and made
available at the chamber office as well as member
businesses, and prove to be a big hit with the leaf
peeping crowd. The Pumpkin People returned in
numbers in the fall of 2004 bringing along
their 'pumpkin pets'. Over fifty displays were seen
throughout the Jackson Area.
Pick up your Pumpkin People maps at the Jackson
Chamber of Commerce or visit Jackson Chamber
of Commerce and click on Events for more
information.

Fryeburg Fair -
Maine's Blue Ribbon
Fair
Like the turning of the leaves, the
Fryeburg Fair
happens each year, offering unparalleled family fun
and a spectacular line-up of activities, live
entertainment, livestock events, demonstrations and
fabulous fair fare. Maine’s oldest fair, this year
the Fryeburg Fair will be held October 2-19, 2005 at
the Fryeburg Fair grounds. For the kids, transport
the whole family back to the "good old days" when
the authentic 19th century little red schoolhouse is
in session for the week. The rafters ring with
laughter once more as area children in period
costumes attend school each day, taught by the not-
so-stern school marm. The focal point of the
Children’s Area is Old McDonald's Farm, a petting zoo
where children can intermingle with small barnyard
animals. "Bessie" the cow is always on duty and
children are always eager to try their hand
at "milking" her. The Hayseed Theater comes alive
with magicians, jugglers, stilt walkers and minstrels
to keep the children entranced while Mom & Dad put
up their feet. Across the way you can visit the
milking parlor and watch dairy cows being milked.
Learn how to make your own butter & ice cream in
the demonstration area. For parents, there’s a week
of live concerts, Woodsmen’s events, harness racing,
and plenty more. For a complete schedule of
entertainments and events for both the kids and
adults, visit Fryeburg
Fair or call 207-935-3268.

Ghost & Goblin Trail: An Inn to Inn Treat
for Treats
The Open Door Bed & Breakfasts Inn the
White
Mountains of New Hampshire will host the return of
the Ghost & Goblin Trail, Saturday, October 29, 2005,
11AM - 4PM. The self-guided tour of participating
inns ... each with their own ghost stories ... will offer
ticket holders a sampling of traditional treats
prepared especially for Halloween. Featured inns
and their Country Partners, several locally owned and
equally fun-loving businesses, will open their doors to
costumed characters, spirits in Halloween make-up,
and street-clothed participants alike.
Those “dressed for the occasion” will automatically
receive their treats and clues. However, those in
street clothes must earn their treat at every stop ...
by first performing a task drawn from a bag o’ tricks.
Guests will also participate in the judging of each
inn’s entrance decorations.
New this year is The Great Mystery Muddle of the
White Mountains, a riddle and jumbled word contest.
The tour inns will accompany their gastronomic
goodie with a clue hidden within their tour booklet
page. Great prizes including overnight getaways and
dinners are at stake. All tickets for the public,
costumed or not, are $15 and are available from
participating inns. Many of the inns are offering
tickets as part of their Ghost & Goblin Trail packages,
which may also include two-night stays, breakfast
for two each day, costume prizes, jack-o-lanterns,
theme dinners, hay rides and other treasures.
Revelers will return home with fond memories and the
Ghost & Goblin Trail Booklet containing the collection
of the day’s goodie recipes, the official map, bits of
Halloween trivia and, most importantly, the
embedded clues to solve the Mystery Muddle. Those
interested in learning more or attending either event
should contact any participating inn, or visit Open Door
Bed & Breakfasts.
