M&D Productions Offers Kids Theater Camps
Looking for an affordable theater camp for your children this summer? Where these camps can run upwards of $750 in urban settings, M&D productions offers its Kid’s Theater Camp at an affordable $150 per week. Plan your family vacation around this wonderful experience! Mom and Dad will have the days to explore the Valley while the kids revel in learning about what it means to be on the big stage. Theater Camp will be held August 1-5, August 15-19 and August 22-26. You may sign up for one or more weeks. Each week will include a production, some improv exercises, set design, indoor and outdoor activities, theatre games and the 5pm performance Friday after final camp each week. Performances are:

August 1st through 5th - Alice In Wonderland - by Kirk Buis
This fairy tale is no parody! Alice thinks she is Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" until she falls into an abyss and her Wonderland trip begins. No one will tell poor Alice how to get back to Kansas, lots of fun and comedy.

August 15th through 19th - Space Crispies - by Kirk Buis
Life is hopelessly dull on Space Station Zebra, eating boring Space Crispies for breakfast every day, fixing the plumbing and keeping the tourists entertained at the Far Out Inn. This comedy zooms into the outer reaches when robots and aliens try to steal the Space Crispies.

August 22nd through 26th - Alices Adventure - The Musical - by Dan Roberts
All of the characters of Lewis Carroll's classic are combined in one musically integrated show. Each scene is a miniature play unto itself that magically joins to become Alice's musical Wonderland.

For more information, call 603-356-4449 or visit M&D Productions Summer Theatre Camp .

Another option for Student Theater Camps takes place at Deertrees Theatre, August 1-5. Rory Kozoll, MFA Harvard, will introduce the fundamentals of the stage, discover of character and the moment-to-moment play of acting while building an original work for the stage. It’s just $100 for the five-day program. Visit Deertrees Theatre or call 207-583-6747 for more information.

    From Bach to Blues
Two unique musical events highlight August:

    Bach Festival, August 25-28
The Bach Festival had its beginning at Christ Church, Episcopal in North Conway. In 1989 Dr. Clarence Snyder, organist at the Episcopal Church had a vision of establishing an annual musical event in the White Mountains which would feature the great instrumental and vocal works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Today, the Bach Festival has a 17 year tradition in the Mt. Washington Valley. Baroque vocal and instrumental works will be performed Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening at 7 PM, and Sunday at 4 PM at Christ Church. Professional musicians come to Christ Church from many states to participate in the Festival: New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine and New Hampshire; many of whom have performed for several years with Festival. This year Timothy Albrecht, internationally recognized organist will return along with Phillip de Fremery, guitar, and 16-year old young artists Kim Felber and Owen Sinclair, playing violin. Tickets are not required, but a $10 per concert donation is suggested. For more information and a complete schedule, visit Bach Festival .

Ray Book Binder in Concert at Deertrees Theater, August 30
Legendary blues singer, guitar picker, song writing ranconteur will be at Deertrees Theater on August 30. This act is a genuine example of the traveling blues tradition whose unique brand of humor and music has taken him from the Chicago Blues Festival, National Story telling Festival and New Orleans Blues & Jazz Festival to Merlefest. For ticket information, call 207-583-6747, or visit Deertrees Theatre .

    White Mountain Arts Festival, Jackson
For those who appreciate beautiful hand crafted works by juried artists, mark your calendar for August 20-21, 2005. The two day annual art festival is a juried event, sponsored by the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. It will be held in the Jackson Park on Saturday from 10am-6pm and Sunday from 10am-4pm. Selected artists and craftspeople will be selling their work under a large tent by the pond in Jackson Village. Other artisans, musicians and food vendors will also be located in the Village park. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the day. It’s not too early to start your holiday shopping. Find unique gifts here, and save them for the holidays.
