    Cranmore Hosts

    January 9

Just how fast can a penguin slide down a mountain? Cranmore Mountain Resort plans to test the velocity of these warm-blooded winter-weather birds on Sunday, January 9. Since the process of gathering and handling live penguins might prove to be too large of an order, Cranmore will substitute miniature rubber penguins for the charity race. Penguins are now available for $5 each, at Cranmore Guests Services, Cranmore Family Fitness Center, and Joe Jones Ski and Sports in North Conway. All proceeds from the sales will benefit the Salvation Army of Northern New England. In 2003, the Northern New England division assisted 104,000 individuals.

Registration is from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at the Schneider Square fire pit, located behind Skimobile Station, the area's main base lodge. The Great Penguin Race will begin at noon as contestants release the penguins down a specially designed track at the base of Cranmore's North Slope. Prizes will be awarded to the owners of the winning entrants at the conclusion of the race. For more information, call 1-800-SUN N SKI (786-6754) or visit Cranmore .

Attitash on the Hunt for Kids with the Gift of Gab
The search is on. As part of the national Snow Star Search, Attitash is inviting kids age 10-14 to cut an audio snow report in hopes of being featured in the NBC broadcast of The Sports Illustrated for Kids Next Snow Search. Top contestants will be featured on Attitash.com allowing the public to vote for their favorite junior announcer who will then be able to participate in the Snow Star Search semi-finals.

Everyone who comes out will get to digitally record a one minute snow report. The top entries will be uploaded onto Attitash.com so that the world can vote for their favorite.. The recording session will take place Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 3-5 p.m. at the Attitash Base Lodge. Hopefuls will have their picture taken to go along with their snow report sample on Attitash.com. The snow report script will be supplied by Attitash meaning entrants need only arrive with a smile for the camera and voice for the microphone.

Upon completion of the recording session, the general public will have the opportunity to listen to each snow report and vote for their favorites by visiting Attitash.com. The audio samples will be available to the public between Jan. 7-11 after which time the top vote getter will be crowned.

The top contestant will be entered into the semi- finals of the Snow Star Search. The Snow Star Search is a part of The Sports Illustrated for Kids Next Snow Search that airs on NBC television.

Contestants do not need to be skiers or snowboarders to participate in the recording session, but some snow sports familiarity is helpful in reading a snow report.

Lodging is available at The Grand Summit Resort Hotel starting at $79 per person per night including lift tickets during the month of January. Guests can get more information or reserve their package by visiting Attitash.com or calling (800) 223-SNOW. Attitash is also offering an incentive in January where kids can ski and stay free with their parents when a 3-5 day ski and stay package is reserved at the Grand Summit Resort Hotel. Restrictions do apply. For more information, call 603-374-2638 or visit Attitash .
