 Greetings!

In addition to the goings-on of Northwest Corner, we want to tell you about two great resources to help keep you In The Know about all the happenings in Houston's vibrant GLBT community.  To visit either site, just click on the logo:

  • do713  D713 (pronounced dew seven one three) is working hard to become the Master Calendar for Houston's GLBT community.  It's free, and it's easy for organizations and event producers to add their own postings to the site.
  • My Gay Houston is presented by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitor's Bureau (and isn't it just great that they are catering to our community!).  This site features listings, events and content unique to the LGBT community.
Please visit these sites regularly and encourage the organizations to which you belong to post their events at Do713 and My Gay Houston.  We've added both links to the left-hand column of our newsletter so you'll always have easy access.

September House Party:
Dive In Movie Night
at the home of Jeremy and James
Saturday, September 25th, 7 pm

bessie watching a movieNorthwest Corner's September House Party has a great theme:  Dive In Movies.  How often do you have the chance to watch a vintage gay comedy with friends while relaxing in the pool or hot tub? Well, that's what Dive In Movie night is all about!

Our hosts, Jeremy and James, have a wonderful swankienda off Fairbanks N. Houston, with a very large pool, hot tub and deck area.  We'll be socializing from 7 to 8:30, with appetizers, beer, wine and vodka based drinks (as well as non-alcoholic choices).  When the sun sets around 8:30, it's show time!  The movie will be projected on the back of the house.

hot tub man and two womenNote:  actually getting in the water is optional - there is plenty of room on the deck for those of you who don't wish to make an appearance in your swimmin' suits!  And if the movie doesn't float your boat, James and Jeremy's house also offers pool, pinball, darts, video arcade games for your entertainment pleasure.

We're taking a vote to determine which movie we'll watch.  The choices are:
  • Sordid Lives: A colorful family from a small Texas town must come to grips with the accidental death of the elderly family matriarch during a clandestine meeting in a seedy motel room with her much younger, married neighbor. The woman's family must deal with their own demons while preparing for what could be an embarrassing funeral.
  • The Bird Cage:  A gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancé's right-wing moralistic parents.
  • 8:  The Mormon Proposition: A scorching indictment of the Mormon Church's historic involvement in the promotion & passage of California's Proposition 8 and the Mormon religion's secretive, decades-long campaign against LGBT human rights.
  • Best in Show: A colorful array of characters competes at a national dog show.
  • Miss Firecracker: Carnelle isn't happy with her life, so in order to improve herself she enters a local beauty contest, seeing a win as a ticket to escape her small town in Mississippi.
  • Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: Two drag queens and a transsexual get a cabaret gig in the middle of the desert.

Tickets are $20 at the door.  Or, save $4 per ticket by purchasing on-line (through 9/24).  The price includes open bar and bountiful appetizers.

You can buy tickets on-line or at the door.  The on-line process uses PayPal, but you do NOT have to be a PayPal member to purchase tickets.

Regardless of how you plan to purchase your tickets,
please RSVP so we'll know how many guests to plan for.

NWC Wine Tasting At Rainbow Lodge
Friday, October 15th, 6 to 8 pm
mouse clearJoin your Northwest Corner friends for a lovely evening of wine, food and fun at one of Houston's most beautiful venues:  Rainbow Lodge.

A special incentive for the men of NWC to participate:  To spice things up a bit, we're inviting members of Out&Equal Houston and the Continental GLBT employee group to join us.  Both of their groups tend to get more participation from more men than women, and since we have been trending more women than men, we thought it would be fun for everyone to combine our groups for this event.

Sip and stroll amongst 4 different stations, each with a special food and wine pairing.  You can go back to each station as often as you like. October is a wonderful time for a tasting at the Lodge, since we'll be able to enjoy the extensive deck, with its view of the beautiful grounds.  Guitarist/singer Kenneth Scott will be adding a nice musical note to the evening.

Tickets are only $29.  To reserve your spot, please call Rainbow Lodge at 713-861-8666.  Attendance is limited to 150, so make your reservations today!
