Speaking of house parties, if you are interested in opening your home for a Northwest Corner party in the future, please email Pat Walker.   Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Your home must be able to accommodate up to 150 guests, using both inside and backyard spaces
  • We charge for attendance at our parties, so our hosts are not out any costs.
  • The Steering Committee will help you with planning and promoting the party
  • Our Hospitality Committee is willing to help you with set up and clean up chores.volunteer candystriper
And speaking of the Hospitality Committee (see how seamlessly this newsletter flows!), we could use a few more volunteers on this committee.  If you are willing to occasionally help with the set up and clean up of Northwest Corner events and parties, please email Carol. You don't have to commit to work every event - we just need a list of potential helpers to call on as the need arises.

August Happy Hour and Dining Out Event
at The Sandtrap Grill
Friday, August 27th, 6 pm
sheep eating grassThe Dinette Set heads to one of Northwest Corner's favorite haunts this month - The Sandtrap Grill, which was the site of our fabulously successful New Year's Eve Gay-La last year.

Cyrus and his wonderful crew are so happy to have us back that they're providing free appetizers during the happy hour portion of our evening!  Whoooo-hooo!

The mix-and-mingle happy hour goes from 6 to 7, and dinner (open seating) begins at 7.

You can choose to attend either or both parts of the evening, but choosing not to attend is absolutely NOT an option!  We've been consistently getting about 30 people to our Dining Out events - a great mix of men and women and everyone does a good job of mingling.  If you haven't yet attended a Northwest Corner event, these smaller gatherings are a great way to get to know our group!

Please RSVP so we'll know how many people to expect.

The Sandtrap Grill is located at 7900 N. Sam Houston Parkway W.  They are west of 249, and sit on the north feeder road of the parkway, roughly across the freeway from the horse race track.  If you need directions, call them at  281-807-3002.
September House Party:
Dive In Movie Night
at the home of Jeremy and James
Saturday, September 26th

bessie watching a movieNorthwest Corner's September House Party has a great theme:  Dive In Movies.  How often do you have the chance to watch a vintage gay comedy with friends while relaxing in the pool or hot tub? Well, that's what Dive In Movie night is all about!

Our hosts, Jeremy and James, have a wonderful swankienda off Fairbanks N. Houston, with a very large pool, hot tub and deck area.  We'll be socializing from 7 to 8:30, with appetizers, beer, wine and vodka based drinks (as well as non-alcoholic choices).  When the sun sets around 8:30, it's show time!  The movie will be projected on the back of the house.

hot tub man and two womenNote:  actually getting in the water is optional - there is plenty of room on the deck for those of you who don't wish to make an appearance in your swimmin' suits!  And if the movie doesn't float your boat, James and Jeremy's house also offers pool, pinball, darts, video arcade games for your entertainment pleasure.

We're taking a vote to determine which movie we'll watch.  The choices are:
  • Sordid Lives: A colorful family from a small Texas town must come to grips with the accidental death of the elderly family matriarch during a clandestine meeting in a seedy motel room with her much younger, married neighbor. The woman's family must deal with their own demons while preparing for what could be an embarrassing funeral.
  • The Bird Cage:  A gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancé's right-wing moralistic parents.
  • 8:  The Mormon Proposition: A scorching indictment of the Mormon Church's historic involvement in the promotion & passage of California's Proposition 8 and the Mormon religion's secretive, decades-long campaign against LGBT human rights.
  • Best in Show: A colorful array of characters competes at a national dog show.
  • Miss Firecracker: Carnelle isn't happy with her life, so in order to improve herself she enters a local beauty contest, seeing a win as a ticket to escape her small town in Mississippi.
  • Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: Two drag queens and a transsexual get a cabaret gig in the middle of the desert.

Tickets are $20 at the door.  Or, save $4 per ticket by purchasing on-line (through 9/24).  The price includes open bar and bountiful appetizers.

You can buy tickets on-line or at the door.  The on-line process uses PayPal, but you do NOT have to be a PayPal member to purchase tickets.

Regardless of how you plan to purchase your tickets,
please RSVP so we'll know how many guests to plan for.
