 Greetings!

Our NWC Big Fat Birthday Celebration is coming up on Saturday, May 15th.  Whooo-hoooo!  You can find out all the details in the article below, but we wanted to highlight three points:
  • This is a 60's theme party.  Costumes are encouraged but they are NOT required
  • Please take a minute to RSVP today!  Remember, you save $5 by purchasing your tix in advance.
  • We are looking for a handful of lip sync performances to enhance the hilarity of the evening.  Whether you are a solo act (a la Nancy Sinatra performing "These Boots Are Made For Walking") or performing as a group (perhaps The Supremes), all are welcome.  You must sign up in advance, so please email Kevin today to reserve your spot.

NWC's Big Fat Birthday Party
Saturday, May 15th, 8 pm, at Carol's House

flower powerNorthwest Corner will be one year old in May - boy, does time fly!  In celebration of a very successful first year, we've got a fabulous event planned for you -
a 60's theme party.

Famed Houston drag performer Anita Bump will be our Mistress of Ceremonies, and the party will feature  decorations, costumes, dancing, entertainment, prizes and more!

The 60s were the era of the Viet Nam war and the war protesters, hippies, the Kennedys, go-go dancers, the Beatles, Twiggy, MoTown, acid rock and more.  Sixties music is great to dance to, and the costume possibilities are inexpensive and endless.  Costumes are encouraged, but they are NOT required.  Click on the RSVP link for costume resource suggestions.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.  The ticket price includes open bar, light appetizers, give-aways, prizes and a lot of fun.  Click on this link to RSVP.  Remember, you save $5 by purchasing your tickets in advance.

One more note:  Attention all you lip sync performers.  We're looking for several of you, either as individuals or in groups, to perform a number during the party.   Whether you appear as Ike and Tina Turner singing "Proud Mary", Aretha Franklin doing "Respect" or any other 60s song that strikes your fancy, we think these performances will add a fun element to our celebration.  You must sign up in advance to perform, and we'll limit the number of performances to 5 so that we'll have plenty of time for dancing during the evening.  For more information, or to sign up, contact Kevin.

Happy Hour/Dining Out
Friday, April 30th, 6 pm at Riva's Italian

Pride In The Park with the Astros:
GLBT Recognition Night
Saturday, July 10th at 6 pm

babe pointing home runUPDATE:  We finally received the ticket purchase info from the Astros, so please click here for instructions on how to purchase your tickets.

For the first time ever, the Houston Astros are honoring their GLBT fans with a special Pride In The Park Day on July 10th.  The 'Stros will play their fierce rivals, the Louis Cardinals - should be a great game!  The Gay Men's Chorus and the Bayou City Women's Chorus will be performing the national anthem.  Very cool!

Northwest Corner will be attending as a group.  Tickets are $32 for lower level seats along the left field line, and $10 of that will go to GLBT charities.

Northwest Corner will also have a private refreshment area, just behind our seats in Section 109. Participation in this part of the evening is optional.  The area, which will be open 2 hours before the game through the 7th inning for our partying pleasure,  features a private cash bar, and complementary hot dogs, chips and popcorn.  Tickets for the refreshment area are $12 for singles and $20 for couples.  If you want to participate in the Hospitality Area, please email Stacy.  We've got to get at least 25 people to sign up in order to do the hospitality thingie.

Note:  We've placed this event on the master NWC calendar, and will be using that posting (instead of Evite) to provide future updates for this event.  If you RSVP'd via Evite, you're ok, but please click on this link to get ticket purchase information.

Walk 2010 Houston Pride Parade
With Grand Marshal Carol Wyatt

Saturday, June 26th
convertible with cat
One of Northwest Corner's founding members, Carol Wyatt, is the Female Grand Marshal for this year's Pride Parade.  Carol is inviting her Northwest Corner friends (decked out in NWC shirts) to carry the banner that precedes her convertible in the parade, and to throw special NWC goodies out to the crowd.

Over 100,000 people line the streets of Westheimer for this unique night-time parade, so it's a great way for us to let the community know about Northwest Corner!
We'll have more details as we get closer to the Parade, but you can sign up now to walk with Carol and NWC.
