 Greetings!

switchboardWe had a great turnout for the first Happy Hour and Dining Out event of the year - lots of new faces amongst "the regulars".  Northwest Corner continues to grow, thanks to all of you who are spreading the word.  We've got over 460 members - whooo-hoooo!  It's incredible to think that we are only a year old.  Keep up the good work, everyone -- please invite your friends and neighbors to an upcoming event.  The more the merrier!

Speaking of upcoming events, this edition of the Northwest Corner News provides information on these fine soirees, get-togethers, activities etc:

1)  Deadline for signing up to attend the Pride In The Park Astros event with NWC is Sunday, March 7th

2)  AIDS Walk:  Sunday, March 14th.  Two ways to participate with Northwest Corner

3)  Special Wine Tasting for Northwest Corner at Rainbow Lodge:  Friday, March 26th (please reserve your spot NOW!)
Pride In The Park:  GLBT Recognition Night at the Astros Game Against the Cardinals
Deadline for signing up to sit with NWC:
This Sunday, March 7th
Date of Game:  Saturday, July 10th at 6 pm

babe pointing home runFor the first time ever, the Houston Astros are honoring their GLBT fans with a special Pride In The Park Day on July 10th.  The game is July 10th, against the St. Louis Cardinals, which means it will be a great game!  The Gay Men's Chorus and the Bayou City Women's Chorus will be performing the national anthem.  Part of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to GLBT charities.  Very cool!

Northwest Corner will be attending as a group.  We've already got 23 people signed up, but we're shooting for LOTS more! Tickets are $32 for lower level seats along the left field line, and $10 of that will go to GLBT charities.

Even though the game isn't til July 10th, we want to get our tickets reserved ASAP.  The deadline for signing up to attend as part of the Northwest Corner group is Sunday, March 7th.  After March 7th, we'll send out more info to all who have signed up.

Depending on the wishes of our group, we may choose to wear our very attractive NWC ball caps (only $8) to the game so we'll really stand out.

Two Ways To Participate in The AIDS Walk
Sunday, March 14th

The AIDS Walk is coming up on March 14th, and Northwest Corner will be participating in two ways:rainbow flag with girl walking

A Walking Team:  Kevin Hamby is coordinating our walking group.  You can sign up to walk with our team by clicking on this link.  For questions, contact Kevin.

Volunteering on Walk Day at the Food Tent:  7 am to noon.

We'll be setting up and staffing food tents in the park, and handing out pre-wrapped snacks. To sign up to volunteer alongside your Northwest Corner friends, contact Molly.

Attention All Participants:  Remember that this is the weekend tthat Daylight Savings Time takes effect, soo set your clocks FORWARD one hour!

We're encouraging all our participants, both walkers and volunteers, to wear the great new NWC ball caps we've created.  They are white poplin with the NWC logo embroidered in full color on the front.  The hats are $7.90 each, and you can order yours by contacting Carol.

The 21st Annual AIDS Walk Houston, presented by
Marathon Oil, is scheduled for Sunday, March 14, 2010. It is an exciting, non-competitive walk event that increases community awareness and educates Houstonians about HIV/AIDS. Proceeds from AIDS Walk Houston raises money for AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc., as well as many other local HIV/AIDS service organizations.

Rainbow Lodge, one of Houston's most beautiful  restaurant venues, is holding a special Wine Tasting Event for Northwest Corner and our friends.  These casual tastings feature four different pouring stations, with pairings of wines and wonderful food selections.  The stations are spread throughout the restaurant and on the deck, to facilitate a "Sip and Stroll" atmosphere for mixing and mingling.

The $29 admission fee allows you to visit each station as often as you like.  Attendance is limited to 150.  To make your reservations, call Rainbow Lodge at 713-861-8666.  Be sure to specify that you are making a reservation for the March 26th tasting.

March is a great time of year at Rainbow Lodge.  We'll be able to take advantage of the extensive deck, which cascades down the back of the restaurant to a beautifully landscaped yard complete with a creek flowing through it.

Ranbow Lodge is a casual yet upscale place.  Nice jeans or business casual attire will be fine for our gathering.  The restaurant is located at 2011 Ella, at E. TC Jester, just a couple of blocks inside Loop 610.
