 Greetings!

Are you watching the winter Olympics???  I have two thoughts:  ice skating

1)  Are there any straight male figure skaters on the planet?  If so, they must be very lonely - you know, sort of like straight female high school coaches!

2)  Also, how gay is doubles luge?  Two guys in ultra-tight suits, laying on top of one another as they speed towards the finish line!

But I digress...In this edition of The Northwest Corner News, you'll find information on
  • The combination Happy Hour and Dining Out event, coming up next Friday
  • AIDS Walk
  • The Rainbow Lodge Wine Tasting
  • A listing of all our special interest groups
Combination Happy Hour and Dining Out
Friday, February 26th, 6 pm
at The Spaghetti Western Italian Cafe

We're going to try something new this year - combining our monthly Happy Hours and Dining Out events.  You can choose to participate in either or both parts of the evening - but missing this chance to hobnob with your NWC pals should NOT be one of your options!

sheep eating grassOur first gathering is next Friday, 2/16 at the Spaghetti Western Italian Cafe.  We'll meet at the bar at 6 pm for happy hour and mixing and mingling.  The dinner portion of the evening begins at 7, and you'll be free to sit anywhere you choose (no big long tables anymore!)

Thanks to Pat Walker and Mel Daley for coordinating these get-togethers.  They have cleverly re-named the dining out group as "The Dinette Set".  Fun!

The Spaghetti Western is located at 1608 Shepherd (a couple of blocks south of I-10, on the east side of the street).  There is plenty of parking behind the restaurant, and if you need directions, you can reach them at 713-861-1313.

Please RSVP so we'll have some idea of attendance.

Two Ways To Participate in The AIDS Walk
Sunday, Sunday March 14th

The AIDS Walk is coming up on March 14th, and Northwest Corner will be participating in two ways:rainbow flag with girl walking

A Walking Team:  Kevin Hamby is coordinating our walking group.  You can sign up to walk with our team by clicking on this link.  For questions, contact Kevin.

Volunteering on Walk Day at the Food Tent:  7 am to noon.

We'll be setting up and staffing food tents in the park, and handing out pre-wrapped snacks. To sign up to volunteer alongside your Northwest Corner friends, contact Molly.

We're encouraging all our participants, both walkers and volunteers, to wear the great new NWC ball caps we've created.  They are white poplin with the NWC logo embroidered in full color on the front.  The hats are $7.90 each, and you can order yours by contacting Carol.

The 21st Annual AIDS Walk Houston, presented by
Marathon Oil, is scheduled for Sunday, March 14, 2010. It is an exciting, non-competitive walk event that increases community awareness and educates Houstonians about HIV/AIDS. Proceeds from AIDS Walk Houston raises money for AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc., as well as many other local HIV/AIDS service organizations.
Wine Tasting at Rainbow Lodge
Friday, March 26th, 5:30 to 7:30 pm
at Rainbow Lodge

Rainbow Lodge, one of Houston's most beautiful  restaurant venues, is holding a special Wine Tasting Event for Northwest Corner and our friends.  These casual tastings feature four different pouring stations, with pairings of wines and wonderful food selections.  The stations are spread throughout the restaurant and on the deck, to facilitate a "Sip and Stroll" atmosphere for mixing and mingling.

The $29 admission fee allows you to visit each station as often as you like.  Attendance is limited to 150.  To make your reservations, call Rainbow Lodge at 713-861-8666.  Be sure to specify that you are making a reservation for the March 26th tasting.
