Greetings!,

Hokey smokes, is this weather brutal or what!!!    sun with glasses

I wasn't here last weekend for the Pride celebration, but I really felt for all the Pride volunteers, participants and spectators.  I understand that people were passing out right and left!  What a nightmare!

I missed Pride because I was in Colorado (highs in the 80s, low at night in the 50s!) looking at a guest ranch.  As most of you know, my goal in life is t
cowgirl with rearing horseo own and operate a Rocky Mountain dude ranch for GLBTs.  The ranch I looked at in Steamboat Springs really has promise - NOW I just need to find $3 million.  Details....details....

Anywho, many of you have been kind enough to take my guest ranch survey, which helps me understand gay travel habits and gauges your interest in the type of vacation that I plan to offer.  I can always use more input, especially from men, so please forward this link to all your friends and ask them to respond and pass it along.  It only takes about 5 minutes to complete.

Join Houston's nicest and nicest looking women at this monthly get-together. Meteor is a swell bar - beautifully decorated, clean, very upscale.

Note:  I know it's hard to walk into a bar when you don't know anyone.  Soooo, come find me, and I will introduce you around. The bartenders know who I am (oddly enough) and they'll point me out to you.  It is my monthly mission in life to make sure that no one is standing all alone at our happy hours!!!

The Rant
frustrated woman

This week's Rant will be a compendium of odds and ends:

Looks like the drama in Minnesota is over and Al Franken is finally going to be seated as US Senator.  Most of you know Franken from his old Saturday Night Live days, but he is incredibly smart, well versed on issues and fiercely liberal.  He is going to make a great senator, and best of all, he is going to cause Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly to absolutely blow an eyeball!  Good times!

The luckiest man on the planet is South Carolina governor Mark Sanford.  Last week he was in the midst of a sex scandal which featured an affair with an Argentine mystery woman and job abandonment (amongst other travesties), and was making all sorts of very painful and embarrassing front page news.  Then Michael Jackson kicks the bucket and bingo - the Sanford scandal falls off the radar screen.  For those of you keeping score at home, this is the second Republican sex scandal in the past month.  Senator John Ensign also got caught messing around.   And wouldn't you know, both Sanford and Ensign are leaders in all the Family Values crap.  Wow, what great protectors of "the sanctity of marriage".  The straight people don't need to worry about us GLBTs screwing up marriage - they are doing a fine job without our help!

President Obama had better get his act together on gay issues pretty darn quick.  During the campaign, he billed himself as a "fierce advocate" for our rights.  So far, not so much!  In fact,  several weeks ago his Justice Dept. filed a brief in a DOMA suit, defending DOMA by comparing homosexuality to incest, for god's sake!  Look, I understand that he has a LOT on his plate right now.  He might not be able to get to our issues yet, but that doesn't mean he has to openly insult us with that kind of garbage.  Argggggg!

And finally, I was sorry to see Farrah Fawcett die.  What an icon of an era.  In the early 70s, I (like pretty much every girl on the UT campus) had some version of the Farrah Fawcett hairdo.  Well, I attempted it, anyway!  My hair is like baby hair (nice for running your fingers through, but hopeless for any sort of styling).  My sorority sisters would load my long hair with hot rollers (I think I had become A Project to them!), and for two minutes after the curlers came out, my hair would flip back in that Charlie's Angels sort of way.  Then gravity, humidity and reality would weigh in, and my hair would fall straight once again.  I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I turned gay - because I could not properly affect the Farrah Fawcett look.  Well, that and the fact I was falling in love with all my sorority sisters!   I like to say that I just found a deeper meaning to sisterhood, if you catch my drift!
    So Long!
kiddie poolWell, that's all for this week's edition of Social Notes. BTW, Social Notes now has 1,601 subscribers, which excites ME, but I realize that it might not be at the top of your thrill list.

Anywho, I hope to see all your smilin' faces at Professional Women's Happy Hour this week.  And I hope you all find a way to stay cool!

Sincerely,

Carol Wyatt
