You know, those of us who choose to volunteer in the community don't do it for the recognition (although an occasional thank you or pat on the back is most welcome!). Everyone has their own (and no doubt different) motivators, but we've all managed to find a niche that works for us.
If you aren't currently volunteering in some capacity, I hope you'll give it some thought. I guarantee that we can find a place for you - no matter what your skills, talents, time availability etc. You can always check out the Organizations pages of Social Notes to peruse the groups which might float your boat. OR, you can contact me and I'll try to help you figure it out.
Here are just a couple of reasons why community service is a Good Thing:
- It's FUN to work with others towards a common and important goal
- It's a great way to meet new people
- If we're want a better world, then we are going to have to pitch in to make it happen
- Those envelopes aren't gonna lick themselves!

I'm not feeling particular enraged by anything this week, so the Rant is taking a week off!
PS: Last week I ranted about the GLBT people who were denied admittance to a midtown straight bar. Since I suspected that my position was going to be a bit controversial, I promised to print any feedback that I received from you loyal readers. I didn't hear from anyone, so we'll just move on.

So Long!
 Whooo-hoooo! The start of the baseball season is only 6 days away! I can get a LOT of work done while watching a baseball game on teevee, doncha know! Of course, the Astros pre-season has be craptacular, but one can always dream!
