Communication is a skill that you can learn. It's like riding a bicycle or typing. If you're willing to work at it, you can rapidly improve the quality of every part of your life. - Brian Tracy
I guess everyone who has a newsletter, blog, or newspaper column tends to write the type of article in January that I'm about to inflict on you today. It's the dreaded resolution column. (grin) So here it is. Here are five communication resolutions I would like you to consider as you make your plans for improvement in 2011. Read more...
If you've been reading my newsletter for awhile, you know that last year I decided to focus primarily on interpersonal communication - spoken and written, in person and electronic.
I'll be discussing additional communication topics in 2011. If you have particular areas you would like me to cover, or communication problems you need solutions for, please email me, and I'll try to cover them in upcoming issues.
If you have grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, or writing questions, send them in and I'll answer them here. All submissions will be kept anonymous.

|Great Training Programs|
The Institute for Economic Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio is offering some extremely topical training this month. Whether you need to learn how to sell on eBay or to the Federal Government, there is a class for you. All are free or extremely reasonably priced. See the January calendar here.
Also, the San Antonio Regional SBA office is providing a workshop on certification - 8(a), HUB Zone, and the new Federal Women Owned Small Business program. Details are here.
If you need training in communication, consider one-on-one coaching with me. I offer individualized communication coaching. No matter what your communication needs (improving your grammar and sentence structure, putting together and rehearsing a presentation and getting over your nerves, dealing with difficult people, leading a team, crafting your sales message), I can help. If you need to make real personalized progress, call 210-863-2250 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for a free initial consultation and assessment. |
PuzzleLast month, Tony Estala of Univision was the first to answer my question about the tallest decorated Christmas tree. I realized after additional research that there were a number of trees that claimed that honor and it really depended on what I meant by "tree." Tony guessed Indonesia, which was the one I had found, but there was an amazing one in Italy.
To start 2011, the person who submits the most original New Year's Resolution will win a $25 gift certificate from Nicavid's Bakery or Starbuck's. Send me the least common one on your list and you might be a winner!
