Greetings! Schools are back in session, the temperatures are cooling off just a bit, and things are calm in Hendersonville now that the NC Apple Festival is over for another year.
It is a great time of year to visit Western North Carolina: There are still plenty of apples to be bought (we can even tell you where to go to pick your own!), the Flat Rock Playhouse has some great music and a funny heart tugging show, and 1898 Waverly Inn has some great money saving deals available!

Saturdays on Four Seasons - September 15 & 22, 1 :00 - 2:00 PM
A complimentary guided hike (with paid Park admission) on the Four Seasons Trail. Witness nature's changing seasons on this 0.6-mile moderate-to-strenuous hike which starts at the Meadows and climbs 400 feet in elevation to the top parking lot. Not recommended for children under 12.
Music on the Mountain Concert Series - September 16, 3:30 - 7:30 PM Back by popular demand! Local & regional bands, featuring Town Mountain from Asheville and Darin & Brooke Aldridge, the "Sweethearts of Bluegrass" from Cherryville, NC, will perform at the pavilion. Mountain Dulcimer Workshop - September 22, 10 AM - Noon Learn to play the "only American instrument" using traditional strumming and flat-picking techniques in a fun and relaxed environment. The 32nd Annual Heritage Weekend will be held September 15 - 16 at the Blue Ridge Parkway's Folk Art Center. This free festival, sponsored by the Southern Highland Craft Guild, features traditional music, dancing and heritage craft demonstrations. A highlight of the weekend is the 32nd Annual World Gee Haw Whimmy Diddle Competition on Saturday, 2:00-3:00pm. Joe "Colonel Buncombe" Bly will emcee the competition.
During Heritage Weekend, learn from area experts about beekeeping, rifle making, coopering, heritage toy making, natural dyeing, spinning, quilting, whittling, print making and furniture making. Other highlights include sheep shearing demonstrations throughout the day on Saturday. The entertainment schedule is jam-packed with regional musicians on both days.

This month's itinerary corner is inspired by the Heritage Weekend at the Folk Art Center (Sept. 15 & 16) and the Open Studio Tour (Sept. 22 & 23) here in Henderson County.

- Check out some of the over 165 artist at the Asheville River Arts District (ARAD)
- Have some lunch at one of the unique eateries in the Asheville River Arts District
- Drive up to the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway
- Check out the galleries of Downtown Hendersonville
- Have dinner at Never Blue - be sure to check out the cool art work on display while you are there.
