Happy Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur to my Jewish readers.

Over the next thirty days, I'll be putting the finishing touches on THE OMEGA PROJECT, perhaps my best and most imaginative thriller yet.  Tor/Forge will publish the novel around May/June, and I'll be releasing a few sneak peeks soon.

Then, in October I'll start working on either MEG 5, LOCH 2, or DOMAIN 4. Cast your vote NOW at www.SteveAlten.com

Meanwhile it appears production will begin on September 29th on the DOMAIN movie. Michael Gabriel will be played by Manolo Cardona, one of the most popular actors in South America and one of the film's producers.

As for the MEG movie, I hope to have new updates in the October newsletter.

Many thanks,

--Steve Alten

Rival to Meg discovered in Peru?

The fossilized skull and jaw of a giant 12-to-13 million-year-old sperm whale was discovered off the coast of Peru.  The creature belongs to a previously unknown genus of sperm whale and was named in honor of Herman Melville, the author of Moby Dick.

Living Tips - Natural cholesterol reducer
Red yeast rice is a substance that's extracted from rice that's been fermented with a type of yeast called Monascus purpureus. It's been used in China and other Asian countries for centuries as a traditional medicine. Red yeast rice naturally contains several ingredients that helps control and lower cholesterol levels. These include a number of monacolins, most importantly monacolin K. It also contains sterols, isoflavones, and monounsaturated fatty acids, or "healthy fats."

Just when you thought you've seen it all...

The Newark Fire Department was called to assist a man who had suffered injuries from a crash--while driving a motorized bar stool! The man claimed that his lawnmower/barstool hybrid could reach a speedy 38 mph on its five-horsepower engine, but he was traveling a sedate 20 mph when he rolled and crashed while making a turn. Although under the speed limit, he was over the drink limit. During a police interview at the hospital, he admitted to consuming "about fifteen beers." When numbers reach the double digits, it's hard to be exact. The driver was issued a citation for operating a vehicle (classified as "all others") while intoxicated, and driving with a suspended license--presumably the motivation behind his motorized creation. He pleaded not guilty, preferring a jury trial.

Joke of the Month:

Joke of the month There once was an Indian whose given name was "Onestone", so named because he had only one testicle. He hated that name and asked everyone not to call him Onestone. After years and years of torment, Onestone finally cracked and said, "If anyone calls me Onestone again I will kill them!" The word got around and nobody called him that any more. Then one day a young woman named Blue Bird forgot and said, "Good morning, Onestone." He jumped up, grabbed her and took her deep into the forest where he made love to her all day and all night. He made love to her all the next day, until Blue Bird died from exhaustion. The word got around that Onestone meant what he promised he would do. Years went by and no one dared call him by his given name until a woman named Yellow Bird returned to the village after being away for many years. Yellow Bird, who was Blue Bird's cousin, was overjoyed when she saw Onestone. She hugged him and said, "Good to see you, Onestone." Onestone grabbed her, took her deep into the forest, then he made love to her all day, made love to her all night, made love to her all the next day, made love to her all the next night, but Yellow Bird wouldn't die!  What is the moral of this story?    You can't kill two birds with one stone.
Thanks, Steve Leifer.
