Greetings!

As many of you may have realized, I stopped mentioning GRIM REAPER: End of Days about four months ago. The reason is that my literary agent and I were debating whether to sell it to a major publishing house under a pseudonym. Many authors do this when debuting a new series, and GRIM REAPER is entirely new. Its also the BEST novel I have ever written, it is my STAND. Two long years of research and writing went into these 650 pages, and in the end, it is a read youll finish, then want to read again, simply because you cannot catch everything in one read. I had a few publishing options, but in the end I decided that Variance Books, the independent publisher who sold MEG: Hells Aquarium would be best. First, they can give the novel the attention it deserves. Second, after all the toil I put into these pages I really wanted it to be under my name. Third, they can launch the book October 1st -- far ahead of a larger publisher. With PHOBOS going so well, I needed to space my releases so PHOBOS can be a summer 2011 release.

The concept for GRIM REAPER began four years ago when my friend, producer and CHUD.com founder Nick Nunziata and I decided to co-write a dark thriller screenplay together. Though the story was solid, the limitations of a script held the story back. Two years ago we decided it would work better as a fully fleshed out novel and I set to work, not realizing the extent of the endeavor. Over the coming months Nick and I will be announcing some cutting edge contests and ways for you to be involved. Heres a small taste of the story:

Dante's Inferno, written by Dante Alighieri between 1308 and 1321, is widely considered one of the greatest and most revered works of world literature. Divided into three distinct parts (Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven), the poem describes Dante's journey through Hell, depicted as nine circles of suffering. Allegorically, the Divine Comedy represents the journey of the soul towards God, with Inferno describing the recognition and rejection of sin. Dante composed his lifes work while Europe was suffering through war, famine, the corruption of the Church, and the evils of the pogrom murderous acts that brutally massacred tens of thousands of Jews. Shortly after Dantes passing, the Black Plague would strike Europe and Asia a near End of Days event that killed off half the world's population while giving birth to a new legend depicted in paintings and dance: The Grim Reaper. What few people know is that Dante Aligheri was a student of Kabbalah, a guarded wisdom that dates back 4,000 years to Abraham, the patriarch of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Dantes poem draws inspiration from the Zohar, an ancient text that reveals the spiritual heritage of all humankind. The Zohar also warns of the End of Days, a supernal event brought on by the corruption of man that will be the modern-day equivalent of Noahs Flood. According to the Zohar, the event will follow the destruction of strongholds belonging to the future Rome" on the 23rd day of Elul...a date equating to September 11th, 2001. In GRIM REAPER: End of Days, author Steve Alten takes us on a classic heros journey of good versus evil, transformation and redemption. Far more than it seems, the story draws frightening parallels between the lack of morality that corrupted Europe preceding the Black Death and the present-day greed that has mired our own society in economic collapse, two endless wars -- and a very real covert biological program, exposed by the author, which could lead to global pandemic and our own self-destruction. End of Days is the first book in a planned series that Hollywood might best describe as the Stand meets Dantes Inferno. Adding to the storys literary feel are nine original drawings commissioned by an artist who invokes the style of Dante illustrator Gustave Doré. The book will be released October 1st, 2010 by Variance.

Alten wins Scriptapalooza contest (reality category)

Well, its not an Oscar, but twelve hundred people entered and its always nice to be recognized. The concept is actually a pet project of mine I wrote a few years ago that I truly believe would be a big hit and do some good. The show is called HOUSE OF BABEL. Twelve contestants from twelve different nations, all of whom speak twelve different languages, are forced to live under one roof. Divided into two groups, the contestants must learn to live together, communicate, function, and work as a team in order to win the Grand Prize. Sound like something youd enjoy? Parkinsons Disease report: Symptoms lessened!

As many of you know, I have been diagnosed with PD. Four months ago, a fan of mine, Dr. Chuck Gerlach, e- mailed me about a natural food science product that he swore was helping people suffering with ailments from low energy, mood instability, fibromyalgia and migraines to Parkinson's, MS, cancer and various auto-immune diseases including arthritis. I told him thanks, but no thanks. Everyone is always trying to sell me something, and I saw no logical in how his product could possibly work. He kept at me, and I kept saying no. About a week later I had a very rough night. My leg was spasming and my throat was very tight. Unable to sleep, growing anxious, I stayed up and prayed and wrote and finally fell asleep around 4 AM. The next day Chuck sent me another e-mail with Parkinsons patients who were using the product to alleviate their symptoms. I called two people. I gave them the third degree. I believed them. (No one can fake this to someone who really has the disease). Chuck wanted no money, he just sent me product. I told him I wouldnt say a word to my fan base unless I was 100% convinced it was working. IM CONVINCED. The products come in a powder form used in a quick shake and they have eased MY shakes with zero side effects. It makes no sense to me WHY they work, they just do. I am NOT selling the products, I am just someone who is grateful and wants to help others, as Chuck did for me. If you are suffering from any of these ailments, I urge you to contact Dr. Gerlach (he is a psychologist, not a medical doctor) at cgerlach41@aol.com and include your name, your phone number, the best time to contact you and a description of your health concern. Chuck can arrange for you to hear from people who had experienced similar health concerns but are now active and pain-free.

PHOBOS (Domain 3) Update:

Phobos means fear. Tracing back to the Mayan roots of Domain, the storyline is blowing me away. After you read it, you will be afraid.

Living Tips: Bet I can get you to stick out your Tongue

In Eastern philosophy, they believe that the tongue offers a map to our organs, said Jonathan Levine, DMD. The tongue can tell you a lot about your overall health. If the tongue is white with a cracked coating, you may have a digestive disorder. Gray or brownish gray you may have stomach or intestinal problems. Yellow or yellow green, you may have liver or gallbladder issues. White with a reddish border, you may have a toxic colon. Coated with red spots, it could be an indicator of heart problems. Turning from white to yellow at the root you may have kidney problems. White you may be releasing toxins. A healthy tongue is pink with a little bit of texture to it. A white-coated tongue indicates a lot of dead bacteria in the mouth, Levine said. The coating represents the death of what was once live bacteria living above the tongue. Frequent dry mouth and a lack of oxygen can cause these bacteria to die and end up coating the tongue. This can cause volatile sulfa compounds to release in the mouth and, 90 percent of the time, its these compounds that are the cause of bad breath, said Levine. It also puts the mouth out of balance causing gum disease and can lead to a fungal infection called candida. Problems with the tongue can also indicate oral cancer, of which early detection is necessary, Levine said. If you have a sore on the tongue that is not going away, or a sore that bleeds and does not heal, or notice blue or black spots on the tongue, you need to see a dentist right away because it could be oral cancer, he said. There are 30,000 new cases of oral cancer in the U.S. every year and 7,400 deaths. And 25 percent of oral cancer cases are not linked to smoking cigarettes. Its a very common cancer, but its also very curable, thats why early detection is important. Levine suggests regularly checking the tongue for signs of discoloration and odd coatings. To do this, stand in front of a mirror, stick out the tongue and check the top, underneath and sides of the tongue.

Living Tips: The ZEN of SARCASM

1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either. Just pretty much leave me alone.
2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and leaky tire.
3. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it.
4. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.
5. Always remember that you're unique. Just like everyone else.
6. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.
7. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.
8. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
9. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is probably not for you.
10 Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
11. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably a wise investment.
12. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.
13. Some days you're the bug; some days you're the windshield.
14. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
15. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
16. A closed mouth gathers no foot.
17. Duct tape is like 'The Force'. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
18. There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works.
19. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.
