African Elephant Train: The Pride of Africa (Rovos Rail)

Tour: The African Collage (Nine Days) 

Itinerary: Rovos' most varied and visually striking: through game reserves, the Kingdom of Swaziland, the Garden Route on the Indian Ocean, Cape Town.

 

Activities: Three game drives, where cheetah, lion, leopard, rhino, water buffalo, hippo, hyena, giraffe, zebra and many other mammals may be spotted, as well as a multitude of birds 

 

More Activities: Visit to Addo Elephant Park (over 450 elephants), ostrich farm, brandy distillery, battle sites from the Boer War, famed ceramics gallery, and, for those so inclined, golf 

 

Life aboard the train: 21 cars in typical consist; includes two diners, two lounges (one with open-air rear platform), hair salon and laundry service (both included in fare), two wine cellars and gift shop     


Cost: Starting at about $5,250 per person, double (increasing to about $5,500 in 2013)
