RAC Questions and Answers
In our last newsletter, we shared a few of the
questions that participants asked during our CMS
RAC webinars. A couple new questions came up from
our latest webinar.
- Will the RAC review any other Medicare plans,
such as Medicare Advantage?
Answer:
The RAC will review Non-MSP Medicare Fee-for-
Service claims only. Medicare Advantage claims are
not in scope for the RAC project.
- Will a Review Results Letter be sent for an
automated review?
Answer:
No. The provider will receive only the Demand Letter
for an automated review. This letter will contain the
rationale for denial and regulation that was violated, in
addition to, appeal rights information.

Need a RAC Coordinator Job Description? |
|
RAC audits will consume enormous time and
manpower. While by all admission, this will be a
cross-department collaboration, an effective strategy
will be to identify a point person. Title, requirements
and duties will depend on the size of your staff,
number of providers and the scope of your practice or
facility. Setting up your team with clear
responsibillities and defining your process will be your
best defense. By clicking below, you will find an
example of a job description for a RAC Coordinator.
This is intended to be thought provoking as you relate
to your practice or facility. You may split the operational
and management duties from those analytical
responsibilties.

Provider Contact Information Form |
|
Have you submitted a Contact Information Form to
your RAC?
The RACs are allowing you to identify a specific
contact at your facility. So far Diversifed Collection
Services (DCS) for Region A is the only RAC to provide
one on their website. If you are not in Region A, you
can still go this to link shown below to print out the
DCS form and send it to your specific region's
RAC. The other 3 region RACs will accept this
form by mail.
Be aware, if correspondence is accidently sent to the
wrong person at your location, you are not obsolved by
way of filling out this form. However it should be
helpful to streamline your process.
