Greetings!

Pop Quiz - How Big is GBAR?

There are 35 NAR Boards or Associations of REALTORS® in New York State.  The largest is the Long Island Board of REALTORS®, with 19,163 Members as of March 31, 2012.  The smallest is the Western Steuben-Allegany Association, with 49 Members.

GBAR has 354 Members.  Here's your quiz question:  "Amongst all New York State Boards or Associations, in what percentile does GBAR lie?"  Bottom 20%?  Top 20%?  Somewhere in between?  Test your knowledge by clicking here to submit your answer (in survey form), along with your name and email address.

Those GBAR Members submitting the correct answer will receive recognition, adulation and accolades in the next issue of the REALTOR® Review!!

President's Corner:

"Trade Show and RPAC, Too"

Pat Kilts Head Shot

This is a test!

If you read my last message to you in the August 15 REALTOR® Review, you will remember information given you about the Membership Services you receive for your Dues.  I realized I left out a very important Committee on our Association list, the Trade Show Committee, chaired by Dawn Roessing.  If you want to be involved with a hands-on, energetic and exciting group, become a member for next year's event.  This particular event provides all Members with a chance to enjoy networking with each other, attending a CE credit course, visiting  our Vendor show, having a great lunch, and walking away with one of many prizes offered.  It is a great day, usually scheduled in early May.  If this is something you might enjoy working on, email Dawn today and join up with an amazing group.

And I never want to miss a chance to give RPAC a boost.  As you well know, this year, we are voting for many positions in local, state, and federal government.  We in the real estate business are very aware of the issues on all those levels that impact our industry.  We are fortunate to have an amazing Government Affairs Chair, Lois Andrascik, to keep us on track and informed.  She and her Committee work diligently to have our voices heard.

Twice a year you get a chance at Dues time to give to RPAC - we suggest $15 or more each billing period. You can, of course, give a donation any time during the year, and it will be much appreciated. Think of how far your RPAC dollar goes, and increase your donation each year.  What you give will come back to you two-fold.

Again, all of our chair positions and committee members are volunteers.  You can be one too. It will soon be time for your Chairpersons to be asking for new members for the coming year.....pick a committee and join us.

Until next time, my very best to you all.

Pat

Quick Tips:  What to "Click" when Entering a Listing on our MLS
GBAR Logo

Some items on the MLS listing form are self-explanatory, but some - not so much.  Here are a few tips that might help:
  • "Display on Internet? Y/N":  If your seller wants their listing to appear on the Internet on such sites as realtor.com, liveinms.com, your IDX, VOWs, etc., click "Y".  Remember, however, its all or nothing - sellers can't pick the sites on which they want to appear.
  • "Display Address? Y/N":  If the seller wishes to have the address displayed on the various Internet websites, click "Y".
  • "Allow AVM? Y/N":  AVM means "Automated Valuation Model".  Clicking "Y" will allow computerized valuation estimates to be shown on your listings.
  • "Allow Third Party Comments? Y/N":  Clicking "Y" will allow the public to comment on the property.

Our thanks to Carl Cohen of Exit Homeward Bound and MLS Coordinator Martha Tubaugh for these quick tips.

GBAR LogoStrengthen Your Core Session:  "Getting Property Taxes Right"

Making sure property taxes are accurate and up-to-date is a critical element of any client listing, and being able to confirm that accuracy is an important responsibility for listers and sellers alike.  But how do you do that when there are so many sources and so many conflicting numbers out there?

If you want the definitive answers to this common   REALTOR® question, then sign up for a FREE and valuable Strengthen Your Core session, led by Mark Camera-
Eckman of Realty USA, on Wednesday, October 17 at the Association Offices from 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm.

Click here for an event flyer, and click here to register via email to Barry Arnold.  We hope to see you there!
