Please join us on Tuesday, February 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. for a special Federation Stakeholder Meeting focused on exploring Chicago Public Schools' (CPS) Full School Day Initiative and its implications for community schools, their community partners, and the families they serve.
Under the plan, all CPS students will have a 7.5 hour school day, beginning in the 2012-2013 school year. Most recently, CPS released the Principal Guide to Parameters and Guidelines that defines the set of district non-negotiables but gives schools significant flexibility in planning for the school day redesign.
The Federation will welcome Monica Lee, Director of New Initiatives, CPS and Adeline Ray, Senior Manager, CPS' Community Schools Initiative, to share the district's plans for rolling out the Full School Day Initiative and to discuss their thoughts about how the community school model can support that process.
Additionally, a panel of community school partners will share their experiences working in schools that have piloted the full school day as well as their efforts to engage principals, parents, and community members in the creation of a full school day plan that meets the holistic needs of students and families. Invited panelists include: Deborah Wilson, Resource Coordinator, Youth Guidance / Brown Elementary School, Hector Herrera Yepez, Resource Coordinator, Enlace Chicago / Castellanos School, and, Lissette Moreno-Kuri, CLC Director, Logan Square Neighborhood Association.
We encourage you to join us and participate in this important dialogue about extending the school day. Now is the time to work closely with your schools' as they develop individual full school day plans for their network chiefs.
Registration and breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. Presentations will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. Please arrive early enough to register, get breakfast, and settle-in before the presentations begin.
