A Message from our CEO
Resident-Centered Care Improvement
 | | Dan Risch, CEO |
Thank you for your support of Lincoln Lutheran - your decision to serve and help people in need is a great gift! The focus of senior leadership this year has been on system improvement. For example, Health Dimension Group has assisted us with improving our marketing and referral system at our nursing communities and the results for July and August are very good. Rick Bova, CFO, and our IT department have been focused on improving our software for clinical and financial information - that project is due to be completed in October. All programs are looking at ways to improve our resident-centered care systems throughout Lincoln Lutheran.
We continue to improve our systems and processes for delivering outstanding service for one purpose - to create the best environment of care for all our residents, program participants, team members, families and volunteers. They deserve nothing less than our best efforts. |

Volunteer Spotlight
Delivering Meals Through Laughs and Friendship
 | From left to right: Arlene Hill and Jean Schemel |
Arlene Hill and Jean Schemel are entertaining and vibrant women whose laughter and welcoming smiles have brightened the day for many homebound seniors living in Racine. After 16 years of delivering hot, nutritious meals on Wednesdays, Jean and Arlene decided it was time to leave from volunteering as driving and transporting meals have become rough for them, especially during the winter season.
"We're really going to miss it," said Arlene.
Both retired from the banking industry, they began to volunteer together after one of Jean's friends encouraged her to get involved. With a passion for driving, Jean drove the route and sorted the food as Arlene delivered the meals.
"I have enjoyed it so much. It is a great service and I encourage other people to do it," said Arlene.
While leaving from Meal on Wheels, Jean and Arlene will not be short on laughs, stories and memories.
"We've had good times with most of our clients; they're really nice," said Jean.
Although they will not be serving for Meal on Wheels, Jean and Arlene plan to continue helping with the Auxiliary. They will also carry on the tradition of treating themselves for lunch on Wednesdays as they have done for the past 16 years.
The Meal on Wheels program provides a home-delivered, nutritious noontime meal to seniors throughout Racine County who are homebound, disabled, frail or at risk. This meal program significantly improves the quality of life and health of those who are served.

Programs and Services
An Introduction to the Lincoln Lutheran Continuum of Care
For over 60 years, Lincoln Lutheran has been known for providing skilled, compassionate care in
our experienced and caring communities such as Lincoln Village, Becker Shoop Center and Bay Pointe. We also provide supportive services to clients who wish to remain in their own home. These services include our non-medical in-home care program, HomeLinc, our two Adult Day Service programs located in Racine and Burlington and our social day program, Harmony Club, which meet at various locations throughout the county. We also hold the contract with Racine County to provide the Senior Nutrition Program via home-delivered and congregate meal sites.
Often times the initial introduction to Lincoln Lutheran is through accessing these Community Services. Our team of managers, direct care providers, administrative support staff and volunteers strive to make this first contact one that provides assurance to clients and their caregivers alike that we do indeed have "helping hearts that care." As needs change, we are here to assist with a smooth transition to additional care services within Lincoln Lutheran. In future issues of this newsletter, we will highlight each program.
If you have questions or think we can help a family member, friend or neighbor, please call us at (262) 898-8900. |

Community Highlights
Trinity Terrace - a True Lincoln Lutheran "Jewel on the Lake"
To many, Trinity Terrace Senior Community gets lost in the shuffle. However, this community is truly worth taking the time to learn about, tour and be a part of. The smallest and most affordable independent community managed by Lincoln Lutheran, at only 39 units, is also the youngest. Built in 1992, Trinity Terrace boasts two stories of independent living with 29 one bedroom and 10 efficiency apartments. The cozy atmosphere is highlighted with a free-to-use computer café with wireless capability, TV viewing area, rooms with complete kitchen access and well manicured grounds overlooking beautiful Lake Michigan.
A leader in the community, Trinity Terrace not only is home for each resident, the surrounding community families have embraced it as well. Home to the annual National Night Out celebration, the first Tuesday of each August, Trinity Terrace plays host to as many as 100 neighborhood guests. The hot dog cookout, moonwalk, raffles and visits by local law enforcement and Alderman, makes this a much-awaited yearly event for so many.
We pride ourselves on our winning community, which the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) awarded with superior ratings for two years in a row. We are proud of what Trinity Terrace brings to the community as well as to the enriching, home style atmosphere each resident appreciates. It is truly a gem on the shores of Lake Michigan. Visit our website to learn more about the amenities and features offered at Trinity Terrace.

September is Healthy Aging Month
September is Healthy Aging Month - an annual observance designed to focus attention on the positive aspects of growing older and to provide inspiration for adults to improve their physical, mental, social and financial well-being.
Celebrate growing older by developing healthy habits early on to build a stronger lifestyle. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

Chew Wisely. Commit to adding more fruit, vegetables and whole grains to your diet. Make a point to cook more meals at home instead of eating out or buying processed foods. Consult a pyramid guide to help you determine what you should and should not be eating.

Keep your mind sharp. This month, choose a new activity that will sharpen your mental skills. Sign up for piano lessons or do a daily crossword puzzle. Check out continuing education classes, YMCA's or senior centers for new opportunities.
Remain active. Make a habit of getting 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity every day or walk 10,000 steps. Take a walk with a friend to stay motivated or join a group exercise class. Consult your physician before starting any exercise program.
Be financially fit. Financial support is the basis of everything we do. Remain financially secure by managing your money wisely with prior planning and saving. Consider using the services of a professional financial planner whom you trust to help manage your finances.

Take charge and think positively about growing older! Just because you are getting older, does not mean the fun and your life have to stop. It's time to live.
Throughout September, turn to our Facebook page for daily tips on growing older and remaining healthy.
