You're Cold? Your Pets Get Cold Too!

It's that time of year
to snuggle up in front of a fireplace with a warm kitty on your lap or a puppy at your feet. But before you settle in, sometimes pet owners forget that their pets are just as accustomed to the warm shelter of the indoors as they are. Here is a great article we found from the AAHA with tips to keep your pet warm and safe this winter:
- Take your animals for a check-up before winter kicks in. Westlake Village Animal Hospital can check to make sure they don't have any medical problems that will make them more vulnerable to the cold.
- Keep your pets inside as much as you can when the temperature drops.

 The Barkley and Westlake Village Animal Hospital will follow regularly scheduled hours during the Christmas Holiday except please note: Saturday, Dec 24th: 8 am - 3 pm* Sunday, Dec 25th: LOBBY CLOSED *There will be no tours on Saturday, Dec 24th. Although Animal Care is 24 hours a day, The Barkley Lobby will be closing promptly at 3 pm in order for our Front Desk employees to enjoy holiday dinner with their families. Thank you for understanding by arranging your travel plans accordingly. |

Meet Vendy Fris & Nichola Bond - Barkley Academy |
Vendy Fris started her career in animal behavior in 1988 while living in Europe. She spent many years training police dogs for local law enforcement agencies. Now, Vendy and her team, Nichola Bond and Dawn Lindley, focus their time specializing in training domestic animals for everyday living - recognizing and correcting behavior disorders of all types. Vendy is well-known throughout Southern California for implementing "positive" training methods. You and your dog will notice and appreciate the difference!

Larry Brambles Art Exhibit- Gardens of the World |
On Tuesday, December 20th through Sunday, January 29th, at Gardens of the World, client and supporter of The Barkley and Westlake Pet Foundation, Larry Brambles, a local fine arts photographer will be exhibiting "Doggies at the Beach." Specializing in coastal area themes, Larry has captured man's best friend at beach settings along the coasts of California, Oregon and Virginia. Proceeds from his photography exhibit will benefit Westlake Pet Foundation.

Pet Food Recall |
 On December 6, 2011, The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has voluntarily recalled a single production lot of Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy dry dog food with Use By or Expiration Dates of February 5 or February 6, 2013 and River Run and Marksman Dry Dog Food manufactured between Dec. 1, 2010, and Dec. 1, 2011 due to aflatoxin levels that were detected above the acceptable limit. These products have already been retrieved from store shelves. No illnesses have been reported in association with this production lot to date, and no other brand pet food products are involved. Please refer to the FDA website for more information on pet food recalls.
