Historical finishes meet modern functionality

Beautiful Historical Kitchen Remodel

This Project, like many that we complete has a great back story that doesn't always get shared.
The Home was built in 1799 by one of the towns first Doctors. Over the years the home has switched hands several times and had several additions put on, one by a previous owner with five children.  Coincidentally the current owner is also the town's local Doctor and also happens to have five children. The Kitchen and dining area were fragmented and lacking in space and function. The Kitchen was also a victim of a 90's renovation that used finishes that didn't quite pay homage to the home's rich history.

The goal of this project was to meld period finishes with modern functionality for this vibrant family of seven. A laundry room and staircase were removed and the kitchen reoriented to create a more functional layout. The end result of the renovation was a home that not only accommodated this family much better but also gave proper respect to the home's age with the period appropriate flooring, and finish details.

The Client had this to say about their experience:

"From the initial planning to the final touches, it was a great pleasure for us to work with the Thorson Team. Every aspect of their performance was exemplary... They offer an outstanding renovation and construction experience and product. It is our pleasure to recommend Thorson Restoration & Construction without reservation."

Staff & Family Updates

Celebrating a job well done!

We would like to thank our clients Fred & Lisa Kern for their gracious hospitality. Upon completion of their Kitchen & Dining Room renovation (featured above) & Sunroom Addition they extended an invitation to everyone involved to join them in celebrating the outcome of the project and to thank the crew for a job well done.Eric, Stacy & Patty discuss The Kern Project

We all enjoyed good food and great company while we recalled all the different phases of the renovation. We passed around a photo binder that had before & after pictures of the project and all were amazed at the transformation. Despite the large role we played in the successful completion of this project, many of our staff don't get a full picture of how the project progressed over it's many stages and we don't always get to see the finished product being put to good use.

Kitchen Designer, Patty Winberg of Topnotch Design Studio, recalled the initial meeting between herself, Eric Thorson & homeowner Lisa Kern and how the old kitchen lacked space and function for this large family of seven. We all wondered how this family was able to function for so many years in such a small and poorly designed space. Eric recalled Lisa's Surprise when he proposed moving a staircase and chimney to create more space in the kitchen: "You can do that?" asked Lisa at that initial meeting. We were glad to be able to open up a whole new list of possibilities for the Kern's new space that the client had never considered.

The entire Crew enjoyed a fun evening in a space that we were all very proud to have been a part of transforming.  Thanks again to the Kern Family for being a pleasure to work with and for graciously opening their home to this special celebration!
