Sacramento, CA (July 12, 2012) --
The Citizens Redistricting Commission is pleased to announce that through the joint efforts of the Commission and the Legislature it has received funding for the 2012-2013 fiscal year to maintain basic services. Though the Commission's operations have been significantly scaled back (as anticipated) the funding will allow the Commission to continue as the leading source of information for the California redistricting process and the certified Assembly, Senate, Congressional, and Board of Equalization district maps.
The Commission's website, www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov will remain available to California voters as the November referendum regarding the Senate district maps approaches and the public phone line will be reactivated in the near future. Additionally, questions regarding the redistricting process and certified maps may be sent to votersfirstact@crc.ca.gov.
The Commission's website provides an unprecedented level of access to the entire history of the 2011 redistricting process, including video of every meeting held by the Commission. The certified maps are available for viewing, as well as the California Supreme Court, Federal District Court, and Department of Justice documents upholding the constitutionality of the maps.
The CRC remains committed to full transparency and the Commissioners welcome a continuing open dialogue with California voters.
More information about the Commission and the 2011 redistricting process can be found at www.wedrawthelines.ca.gov.

California's first Citizens Redistricting Commission is a new 14-member Commission charged with redrawing California's Senate, Assembly, State Board of Equalization, and Congressional districts based on information gathered during the 2010 census. The Commission must draw the State Senate, Assembly, State Board of Equalization, and Congressional districts in conformity with strict, nonpartisan rules designed to create districts of relatively equal population that will provide fair representation for all Californians. |
