The Army, the largest of our Armed Forces, typically trains on and operates from large installations called forts or posts. About 60% of Army personnel are married, and 9% of those marriages are dual military - one soldier married to another. Although Army posts have some married family housing, 70% of Army families live off post and worship at community churches.
As Army families struggle with the challenges of recurring deployments, Combat Trauma, and other stresses, community churches can often provide the most effective venues for Christian fellowship, spiritual support, and practical help.
Cooperative ministry with the Post Chaplain may also be possible, but to function under the commander's religious program, the chaplain's approval is required in advance.
In either case, churches near an Army Post with a heart for those in need can offer effective ministry to thousands of hurting Army families.
