Prayer for Military Families

Army Families

Army FamilyThe Army, the largest of our Armed Forces, typically trains on and operates from large installations called forts or posts. About 60% of Army personnel are married, and 9% of those marriages are dual military - one soldier married to another. Although Army posts have some married family housing, 70% of Army families live off post and worship at community churches.

As Army families struggle with the challenges of recurring deployments, Combat Trauma, and other stresses, community churches can often provide the most effective venues for Christian fellowship, spiritual support, and practical help.

Cooperative ministry with the Post Chaplain may also be possible, but to function under the commander's religious program, the chaplain's approval is required in advance.

In either case, churches near an Army Post with a heart for those in need can offer effective ministry to thousands of hurting Army families.

- Father God, we know that many of our young Army families are seeking you as they serve at posts far from home. We pray this week that chaplains and churches would begin to work together to bring them the good news of Jesus Christ before they're called to combat.

- Gracious Lord, bless those church military ministries that are already fulfilling the Great Commission, and enable those which would like to begin ministering to Army families.

- Lord of Hosts, send your Holy Spirit to church leaders and to chaplains, and reveal to them  the ways in which they can minister to Army families.
