Week Thirty-Three

Prayer for Military Families

A Cord of Three Strands . . .

three StrandsWe know from Ecclesiastes 4:12 that "A cord of three strands is not easily broken," and from Matthew 18:19-20 that " . . . if two of you on earth agree about something, then you can pray for it.  And the thing you ask for will be done for you by my Father in heaven."

Ministering together, churches, chaplains, and para-churches can equip our military families with the "full armor of God" for the war on terror, and begin to build the spiritual resiliency needed to sustain our fighting forces and their families through this trying time.

Cooperation without collision in ministry requires the development of trusting relationships.  That process usually starts when someone initiates a dialogue about the partnership.  Chaplains may reach out to churches near their bases, churches may offer their unconditional support to chaplains, or para-churches may be able to bring chaplains and churches together to explore cooperative ministry possibilities.

- Lord, move among your people, and embolden chaplains, churches, and para-churches to begin building the relationships and effective partnerships required to meet the ministry needs of military families.

- Father, we pray this week with joy for those "Partnerships in the Gospel" which already exist, and we seek your wisdom and guidance in developing others.

- Gracious Savior, keep us ever mindful that fulfilling the Great Commission is our common goal, and that we are all one in Christ Jesus as we minister to military families.
