Prayer for Military Families

Combat Trauma

Combat Trauma is the current term for the post combat stress reactions formerly called "Shell Shock or Battle Fatigue." It has been observed in all wars, but never with the frequency of the present conflicts.

A recent DOD analysis revealed that 38% of Soldiers and 31% of Marines reportedCombat Trauma psychological symptoms of combat trauma, but that among the members of the National Guard and Reserve forces, the figure rose to 49%.

Many of our returning service men and women don't report such symptoms for fear of jeopardizing their military careers, so the actual numbers may well be higher.

Although the military services are working hard to identify and treat those who are suffering with the devastating effects of combat trauma, there is much still to be done.  The horrors of war can inflict deep and permanent wounds on a soldier's soul, so spiritual healing is ultimately required to manage such injuries.

- Lord, you alone are the source of healing for the wounded souls of Combat Trauma victims, so this week we pray for those afflicted by Combat Trauma and their families.

- Father, we know that you often accomplish your miraculous healing through those who serve you, so we ask you to inspire churches to learn about Combat Trauma, and to bring spiritual healing to the military families affected by this injury.

- Lord Jesus, make your loving presence known to Combat Trauma victims in such programs  as The Welcome Home Initiative, Post Traumatic Growth Institute, and Bridges to Healing.
