Prayer for Military Families

The Fourth of July

As we observe the Fourth of July next Monday, it's appropriate to Week 10 - In God We Trust reflect on the patriots who struggled against oppression to make us an independent nation, and to recognize that their tradition of selfless service continues unabated in our military forces today.

Military families have sacrificed much throughout our history to maintain the freedoms we cherish, and we owe them a great debt of gratitude. May our celebrations this Fourth of July be characterized by thanksgiving for these faithful defenders, even as we acknowledge and affirm their devoted service.

May we also remember that since the founding fathers declared our independence from Great Britain, we have placed our trust in God's sovereignty to guard and guide us throughout our history, and that for 150 years our national motto has proclaimed that "In God We Trust."

- Blessed Savior, show us how to honor those who have answered the call to service in defense of our nation, and through whose sacrifice we remain free to worship you.

- Lord God, in the Pledge of Allegiance we acknowledge that we are one nation under your authority and our national motto "In God We Trust" appears on our currency. Help us to give these words meaning through our actions in serving you.

- Father, as we celebrate our independence, we also celebrate your sovereignty over our great nation across the years, and ask your guidance in living out these proclamations of dependence upon your grace.
