Military Deployments - Part Two

A recent study in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics showed that 33% of children of deployed military personnel are at high risk for psychological problems.  Deployment -Week 8

A retired Command Sergeant Major recently noted that many military children are essentially growing up in single parent families with one parent deployed for much of their formative years.  As a result, they're forced to assume responsibility beyond their years as they care for younger siblings while the other parent works to make ends meet.

Numerous studies have identified fatherlessness as the root cause of most criminal behavior. Military children can develop feelings of being fatherless with dad gone for up to fifteen months at a time over repeated deployments.  As a coping mechanism, they may be tempted to engage in destructive behaviors such as bullying, criminal acts, and even suicide.

- Lord, raise up mentors, role models, and appropriate medical help for military children coping with the frequent absence of a parent fighting the long war on terror.

- Father, encourage churches with military families in their congregations to recognize these needs, and reach out to comfort military children and sustain them through the hardships of a parent's deployment.
