Prayer for Military Families

Mother's Day

May is National Military Appreciation Month, and May 6th is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. In 1984, President Reagan proclaimed the Friday before Mother's Day as a time to recognize the vital role military spouses play in the nation's defense.  As we observe Mother's Day, therefore, we should honor not only our own mothers, but also the many military spouses who are mothers, as well as the 150,000 mothers across the country who have a son or daughter deployed in harm's way, and cannot be with them on this special day.

Military Mom - Week 2

We should be especially mindful of the 10,000 or so military women who are mothers and are currently deployed.  They deserve our special thanks and appreciation, as well as our support as they defend our freedoms, even as they struggle with the additional stresses of worrying about childcare and separation from their children on Mother's Day.

- Heavenly Father, we thank you this week for the special gift of mothers, and ask you to provide special comfort to those mothers who wait with trepidation for the return of a deployed son or daughter.

- Lord, we particularly lift up military mothers who are separated from their families by the needs of their service.  Send your Holy Spirit to be with them, and provide the peace that passes understanding as they serve our nation in distant lands.

-  Gracious God, we ask your special blessings on military spouses this week, particularly those who are also mothers as they strive to keep the home fires burning brightly while their husbands are away at war.
