Our flag camp in Montville NJ brought out 10 enthusiastic children, not bad for a first time activity.

Our tackle camp in Morristown NJ brought out over 25 participants, many first timers to the tackle game.

CRC 7's action shot

A Downingtown (PA) player races down field. They joined 40 plus Morris Rugby Youth participants on the main pitch at

CRC 7's. June 2011

At AFR we are dedicated to helping kids fall in love with rugby ONE community at a time.  With that idea in mind we aim to have CO-ED flag rugby become a permanent fixture in your towns sports calendar. Spread the word and help make us the "little league" of flag rugby!

The College Rugby 7's championships in Philly back in June was a big success for AFR as we got to meet with many new prospective program leaders.  We hope to see some south Jersey and eastern PA growth using our platform.  The two day tournament held on June 4th and 5th at PPL Park was generally considered a success by all including the event promoters USA Sevens and NBC and their sponsors as the matches were televised live on both days! AFR set up a booth in the fan zone and saw many people stop by to learn more about our program.  There was a strong contingent there of Morris Youth Rugby personnel including flag players and their parents, U13 and U15 boys, men's and women's as well as masters guys! The kids played for 10 minutes or so on the main field before the finals on Sunday.  The Downingtown Youth Rugby team had a huge contingent at the park and the coaches/parents and kids all seemed to have fun.

The concert by The Dropkick Murphys as the sun went down on Saturday was enjoyed by all!

Many thanks to Neil Hogan for organizing the Morris Youth Rugby squad that played on the field as well Tom and KJ Feury and Omar Rivera for helping out rugbkid at the booth.

By the way Dartmouth beat Army 32 to 10 in the final on Sunday after our kids played!

American Flag Rugby tournament in Chester NJ draws a big crowd once again
Airal
The 12th annual American Flag Rugby tournament was held again this year The Black River fields in Chester.  Around 800 kids participated on 121 teams and their parents and siblings all seemed to enjoy the day.   As the local news reported fire and EMT squads were on hand as northern NJ was locked in a stifling heat wave all that week.  Fortunately the temps came down from the 100 degree mark and there was a breeze for most of the morning! The teams from NJ under The Morris Youth Rugby umbrella were The Denville Dawgs, The Montville Wanderers, The Parsippany Panthers, The Long Valley Wolfpack, The Byram Bruins, The Black River Renegades, The Mine Hill Tigers, The Morristown Colonials as well as the Tri Town Mountaineers and Ridgewood Rays.  Cranford, Berkley Heights and Westfield were there along with a new team from Rahway.  Blackthorn and Doylestown came over from PA too.  AFR would like to give The Wethersfield (CT) Eagles a big shout out for bringing down 3 teams and making a weekend out of it!

We would also like to thank our two sponsors Sams Club and The Parisi Speed School of Morris Plains.

Denville Dawg Ted Orbach's excellent adventure!

What a road trip!

Ted Orbach and his Dad took a trip that would keep any sportsman on the edge of his seat. This summer they visited the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Basketball Hall of Fame, Football Hall of Fame and Soccer Hall of Fame. The trip began as they headed south after a Denville Dawg Rugby match to watch their beloved Philadelphia Phillies play.

Is the next stop the Youth Rugby Hall of Fame? Where is that anyway?

Ted's wonderful adventure

AFR remember the ruggers who perished on 9/11

With the 10 year anniversary of the attacks on the US approaching we reached out to Rugby Magazine Editor Ed Hagerty to help us remember the cops, fire fighters and and other private citizens who were also members of rugby clubs.  The first 14 gentlemen perished in the Twin Towers.  Jeremy Glick and Mark Bingham were aboard United Flight 93 and were part of the "Let's Roll" team that is presumed to have attacked the hijackers which caused the plane to miss it's target in Washington DC but as we know crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.   If you are so inclined, keep them and their families in your thoughts.
