Spring Maintenance Tips

Below you will find some helpful spring maintenance tips for your home. Preventative measures are the key to keeping your home in optimal condition.

  •  Check for damage that may have occured to your roof during the winter months.
  • Check gutter for leaves and debris that could contribute to hazards during the hot summer months.
  • Clean filters and exhaust filters to all appliances. (Kitchen hoods, furnaces, dryer, and space around and under ducts)
  • Replace filters if necessary
  • Check smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide detector batteries and replace if necessary. Cleaning covers will help detection in the event of an emergency as well.
  • Check your electrical panel for loose wiring which could lead to a fire. Call an electrician to remove front panel and assess the damage.
  • Have a professional take a look at both your water heater and air conditioning units to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Check lightbulbs to ensure they are the correct wattage for the light fixture. Any bulb over the recommended wattage for the fixture is subject to malfunction.
  • Purchase a fire extinguisher and educate family members how the extinguisher operates and where it will be kept in the home.
  • Clean BBQs before summer use.

Please contact our office should you have any further questions.

Updated Building Codes

sprinklerhead Starting January 1, 2011 sprinkler systems will be mandatory for new one or two family dwellings in 5 states, which include California. Keep in mind, this requirement is not for existing one or two family dwellings, but new homes.

Other states that have adopted this requirement include District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

Uninsured Motorist Exposure on the Rise

The Insurance Research Council this year reported that nationally 1 in 6 drivers were likely uninsured. This report also showed a direct correlation between unemployment and  uninsured, underinsured, and hit and run accidents. In 2010 alone, roughly 18% of motorists were expected to be uninsured. With this percentage on the rise, our job is to make sure that you are protected should you face this situation. Please contact our office if you have any questions or would like to review your coverage on your auto policy. In many situations, an additional $1 million of uninsured motorist can be added to a personal umbrella policy as well.
