There are various ways for you to switch the power to your process heaters.
There are simple mechanical or mercury relays. These low cost devices will do the job but they will result in much wider temperature swings; not good for your process OR your heaters.
Solid State Relays and SCR's (Silicone Controlled Rectifers) are solid state electronic devices, providing much tighter control. The cost differential between simple mechanical devices and solid state devices is relatively small and the cost benefit in better process control and longer heater life more than make up for any cost difference.
