Scoop of the Century: Drury Graduate Dispatched First Accounts of Titanic Disaster

On the evening of April 11, 1912, Carlos Hurd, an 1897 graduate of Drury University, and his wife, Katherine, boarded the Cunard liner Carpathia, heading from New York to Europe. Hurd, a newspaper reporter, had no idea that he was on the verge of scoring what some would later call the greatest scoop of the twentieth century. Read the story.

Three NAC&U Professors Listed Among Nation's Best

 

According to the Princeton Review's "Best 300 Professors" two of the country's best undergraduate teachers are at Ithaca College and one of them teaches at Nazareth College. The education services company features profiles of Marty Sternstein, professor of mathematics, and Mike Haaf, associate professor of chemistry, both of Ithaca College; and Scott Campbell, associate professor and chair of the Philosophy department at Nazareth College. Hailing from 122 colleges and universities across the nation, the top teachers in more than 60 fields of study are recognized in the newly released book.

Students Honored as Newman Civic Fellows, Goldwater Scholars

Students from Ithaca CollegeWagner College and Westminster College have been named as 2012 Newman Civic Fellows, an award that recognizes college students for being leaders who have worked to find solutions to challenges facingtheir communities. They are among 162 students nationwide to receive the honor from Campus Compact, a coalition of college and university presidents committed to fulfilling the civicpurposes of higher education by improving community life and educating students for civic and social responsibility. 

 

The 2012 Newman Civic Fellows are:
Wagner College: Kevin Ferreira
Westminster College: Carolina Silva
Ithaca College:  Elizabeth Stoltz

 

North Central College student Maria Gommel and The University of Scranton student Bradley M. Wierbowski have been named 2012 Goldwater Scholars, the highest national undergraduate award for achievement in math, science and engineering. They are among 282 students from elite colleges from across the nation.  

 

Arcadia University Announces Global School of Business
