This is the time of year that our pastor refers to as "Hallowthanksmas".  It seems that the time between October 31st and December 31st is just a quick blur of time that goes by so quickly....flowing from one event to the next to the next to the next....

You get the picture.

This time of year also causes us to reflect on the past year of life's events.

How much have our kids grown?

What tasks did we accomplish?

Whose lives have we impacted?

As we head into this hectic time of year, remember to take the time to remember the things that are important to you and your family.  Even in this tough economic time, we all have something for which to be thankful.

Happy Hallowthanksmas!

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large, empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2 inches in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything

He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes."

"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter - like your job, your house, your car.

The sand is everything else. The small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

This parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well. The farmer heard the mule praying or whatever mules do when they fall into wells. After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving. Instead, he called his neighbors together, told them what had happened, and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially the old mule was hysterical! But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him. It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back, HE WOULD SHAKE IT OFF AND STEP UP!

This he did, blow after blow. "Shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up...shake it off and step up!" He repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows, or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on SHAKING IT OFF AND STEPPING UP!

It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of that well! What seemed like it would bury him actually helped him . . . all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

THAT'S LIFE! If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and refuse to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity.

Why You NEED a Lobby Sign!

Do you need Lobby Signage? YES!! Lobby Signs are the first thing people see when entering your office, store, building, restaurant, hotel, center, etc. Lobby signs are seen by the sharpest marketing experts not as an expense but as an investment that plays a fundamental role in branding, message, visual identity and more. Lobby Signs come in a large variety of materials, design, mounting preferences, size, font, colors, and more. They can be lighted internally or externally or left alone. Often a set of ceiling cans will light a lobby sign effectively, providing shadowing to emphasize the 3-D effect.
