Greetings!

October was a busy month at OceanMHS.  As we were preparing for our 5K event, Race for Respect, we were also participating in several community events, such as National Depression Screening Day.  The stories are below!  Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
National Depression Screening Day
On October 7th OceanMHS staff participated in National Depression Screening Day.   We offered depression and anxiety screenings to the community at the County Connection store in the Ocean County Mall.  We look forward to participating in this event again next year.  And the improvement we plan to make?  Goodie bags for everyone that completes a registration!
Race for Respect - 2010
And speaking of goodie bags (see story above) we handed out over 100 at our Race for Respect 5K.  The cold November morning didn't deter the runners or walkers that participated in our first 5K.  Congratulations to Brian Anderson for being the first to cross the finish line at 19.52 minutes.   Thanks to the many volunteers, participants and sponsors the event was a huge success (see story below)!
Ocean Cares Foundation
The funds raised from the Race for Respect will allow us to develop the Ocean Cares Foundation.  Ocean Cares will raise funds Ocean Mental Health Services and the people we serve.  We have already received interest from some community members that would like to help out on the Board and Development Committee.  If you are interested in participating as we work to enhance the quality of life of people with mental illnesses, please send me an e-mail at cgaetano@oceanmhs.org or call me at 732-349-1977 x113
RunnersProject Recovery Evening Program
When someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol the recovery process can be long and complex.  When you add a co-occurring mental illness it becomes even more difficult.  Project Recovery is dedicated to helping people in various stages of recovery as the learn about their illnesses and work towards having a stable, healthy lifestyle.  The Project Recovery Evening Program is three evenings each week of groups and individual services designed to help people maintain long lasting sobriety and recovery from mental illness.  If you or someone you know is in the early stages of recovery and would like more information please call 732-575-1111 and ask about Project Recovery.
Thank you for your continued support of OceanMHS!

Sincerely,

Christina Gaetano
