We Care
On Saturday, July 30th CCADC participated in Manchester City Schools "We Care" program.  Coalition staff along with Suzanne Rutley and SSG Merino spoke to many Manchester City School parents and students.  CCADC provided informative parenting information, how to keep your children drug free, and Coalition goodies.  SSG Merino provided an essential service of speaking to non-English speaking Hispanic families.

While at We Care deserving families/students received various health screenings, school supplies, backpacks, and shoes.  Coordinated School Health coordinator, Jesslyn Johnson, made sure that each child left We Care with a healthy snack of juice and apples.

A big round of applause goes to Manchester City School's Family Resource staff for a wonderful event Saturday.

CCADC Purchases 2 Billboards on Hwy 55

CCADC has been fortunate to purchase 2 billboards along Hwy 55 near the flea market.  In the coming months, please be on the lookout for the Coalition's new billboards.  These billboards are to raise awareness for our Parents Who Host Lose the Most; Don't be a party to teen drinking campaign.  Please let us know what you think once they are up!

Greetings!

Hello!  We hope this finds you well.  As the school year is beginning we have many new initiatives and exciting new opportunities. Please read below to find out the latest Coalition updates, as well as, a change in the August monthly meeting.

August Meeting Change
The August CCADC meeting for August 4th has been cancelled.  Instead, we will merge our normal monthly meeting with our Region 5 South Prevention Advisory Council meeting at the Building Strong Families Conference at Motlow State Community College (please see previous e-mail). This meeting will take place during lunch on the 17th of August.  This will utilize everyone's time more effectively.  Please plan on attending the conference and this very important meeting!    At the Region 5 South meeting you will receive an update regarding the new Prescription Drug Initiative CCADC is collaborating with PIRE (Pacific Institute on Research and Evaluation) on.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

Text-a-Tip Update
***NOT FOR MEDIA RELEASE***

At our July meeting a great question was raised regarding the true confidentiality of the forming Text-a-Tip program. The question asked was whether or not law enforcement could gain access to phone numbers from the Canadian company that pushes through our tips.  We had Tanner Stobb from Tip Soft answer the question for us.  "There is NO way Tip Soft can track a person down.  It is protected by Canadian Supreme Court law.  The only way that it (phone number) could come out was if the information provided by the youth were to give clues as to who it was.  For instance, if someone said in a tip, "My neighbor that lives as 123 Elm St......"  You'd obviously know who sent in the tip because they give their address as the neighbor."

We hope this helps answer a few questions!

Text-a-Tip is a crime stoppers like initiative that CCADC, as well as, area law enforcement and schools are working on coordinating.  It is an effective initiative that Blount County and Franklin County are currently using.  We will continue to update and educate the Coalition on this initiative in the coming months.  We are still in the planning and development stage with it.

Permanent Prescription Drug Take Back Boxes Available
As you may know, CCADC has partnered with the Coffee County Sheriff's Department and the Tullahoma Police Department to install Permanent Prescription Drug Take Back boxes in each of their lobbies.  Unused/unwanted prescription medications can be dropped off at either location anonymously for proper disposal.

CCADC has recently received carry-over monies from the Drug Free Communities Grant.  A portion of this money has been set aside to ensure that the Manchester City Police Department will also receive a permanent take back box.  Once policies are set in place the MPD will also be a third location to drop off unwanted/unused prescription medications.

Thank You
We want to thank you once again for your continued support and diligence as a Coffee County Anti-Drug Coalition member.  Without our members we would not have the momentum to steadily change the environment here in Coffee County regarding youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and abuse.

Sincerely,

Kristina Clark
