New Grants

CCADC will be completing application for three new grants.

1) Drug Free Communities-Mentoring.  CCADC will be applying for $75,000 each year for up to two years to mentor Lincoln County and the city of Spring Hill.  Lincoln County has an established Anti-Drug Coalition but simply needs direction and mentoring.  Spring Hill wishes to form an Anti-Drug Coalition to help combat a rising drug problem.

2)Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL).  CCADC will be applying for approximately $30,000 for one year to create a county centered Youth Advisory Prevention Council.  This council will be a task force of 15-20 teens (age 14-17) from the two high schools within the county.  The teens will be trained in the coalitions process and leading prevention education including Underage Drinking.  It will then be the task of these youth to take the message and education back to their schools (CCCHS and THS) and educate the various student groups.

3)National Institute on Health (NIH) and Pacific Institute on Research and Evaluation (PIRE).  CCADC has been approached by PIRE to coordinate a research-based grant on prescription drugs.  This will focus on educating citizens at each point of contact they may have with prescription drugs.  This could look like educational sessions with Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacist, etc... If the grant is approved Coffee County will be on the forefront of Prescription Drug Prevention and Education with result hopefully being published through the National Institute on Health.

Regional Drug Take Back

Mark your calenders for April 30th, 2011.  CCADC will be hosting Prescription Drug Take Backs at the First Vision Bank branches in Manchester and Tullahoma.  We are partnering with the Coffee County Sheriff's Department, Tullahoma Police Department, First Vision Bank, Tullahoma Drug, Marcrom's Pharmacy and the Drug Enforcement Agency.  Coffee County residents will be able to anonymously drop-off their unwanted/unused prescription, over-the-counter and/or veterinary medications for proper disposal.  Participants in the drop-off will be given (free of charge) a medication lock-box.

While at March's CCADC meeting members volunteered to contact different marketing avenues.  If you have a business that has a marquee or sign that would like to display the take back please contact the Coalition for information.  Also, announcement will go out via e-mail to each coalition member.  If you would please forward the e-mail out to Coffee County residents on your e-mail list whether professional or personal.

In September 2010 CCADC collect approximately 50 pounds of prescription, over-the-counter and veterinary medications at the fall prescription drug take back.  Our hope is to collect even more medications in April.

If you would like to help on April 30th at the take back event, please contact Kristina or Christina for more information.

Parkpalooza
New Logog
CCADC has partnered with the Manchester Rec Department, Coordinated School Health from Coffee County Schools and Manchester City Schools, Coffee County Schools Family Resource Center, and Bradford Addiction Services to plan and implement Parkpalooza in Rotary Park, next to the Manchester Rec Center. The family event will take place May 14th, 2011.  The Amazing Family Fun 5k Run/Walk will take place at 8am.  CCADC will be participating in the 5k and providing aluminum water bottles for race participants.

Throughout the day Parkpalooza will offer the Coffee County's Longest Yard Sale, Carnival Games, Inflatables, Petting Zoo, Magician, a Cruise-In, and a evening concert.  CCADC with other community organizations will offer informational booths/tables to educate the public on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention, healthy foods, physical activity, etc...  Also, following the race Bradford and CCADC will provide a speaker for the community regarding Prescription Drug misuse and abuse as well as the new dangers of synthetic drugs.

We are currently looking for sponsors to help make the event a free as possible to the public.  We are also looking for non-profits and organizations that would like to participate in the educational piece of the event.  Also, to put on this large of an event, volunteers will be needed.  If you or your organization is interested in helping in any way possible please contact Christina or Kristina.

An e-mail will come out soon with even more information including race registration information.

Saturday, April 9th will be CCADC's High School Lock-In (7pm-7am) at the Manchester Rec Center.  If you would like to help chaperone this event please reply to this e-mail.

If you have a high school student who would like to attend the Lock-in please reply to this e-mail and we will send you a permission form.  Students can bring 2 friends to the lock-in.
Please join us at our April CCADC meeting on April 21st, 2011 at 12pm (noon).  We will provide lunch at the Coffee County Schools Board of Education Board Room.  Please feel free to bring a colleague or friend.  Also, please bring an item for the Coffee County Schools Backpack Program.
We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who brought products for the backpack program for Coffee County Schools.  We collected numerous items!  It was such a success we plan to do the same at April's meeting.

Thank you for reading our updates.  We are working hard to get our permanent drug take back up and operating.  We would like to thank the Coffee County Sheriff's Department and Tullahoma Police Department for partnering with us in this endeavor.  Please keep your eyes open for information on the opening of these permanent boxes.

If you need more information on an item discussed or would like to see how you can help please feel free to reply to this e-mail.  We thank our members for helping us to become a great Coalition!
Sincerely,
