Next Coalition Meeting
Thank you for those who attended our February meeting.

Our next meeting will be March 17th at 12noon at the Coffee County Board of Education, Board Room.  As always lunch will be provided.  We hope to see you there!
2 Elementary Schools in Need
As many of you may know Tullahoma, Manchester City and now Coffee County have a "Back Pack" program.  This program allows students in need to discreetly go home with enough food for the weekend.  These children without the program may go hungry all weekend.  Many of the schools have corporate or church sponsorship.  However, 2 of our schools do not.

We at CCADC would like to help both of these schools out.  At our next meeting please  bring a single serve food item.  These items will then be distributed out to the schools.  We would like to continue this for the programs so they can begin serving even more students in need.

The list will be e-mailed out shortly after this newsletter.  Also, attached will be a sheet that allows for a financial donation.  If this is something you wish to do please follow the instructions on the sheet.

We appreciate all your help!
Xpressions Outreach Ministries needs your help!
Xpressions Outreach Ministries is looking for donations of prom/bridesmaid dresses, dress shoes and accessories.  These items will be provided for free to Coffee County girls who cannot afford these items for prom.  These girls will experience a "Cinderella Moment" with hair and make-up included.  If you would like to donate your size 0-24 items or need more information please contact Lisa at vizxpressions@gmail.com or call 615-579-7477.  Items can be dropped off at 110 Hillsboro Blvd, Manchester by March 26th.
Are you interested in behind the scenes activities with CCADC?
CCADC is creating Drug Brief to be distributed to teachers and administrators every 2-4 months.  We are in need of creative and interested people to help with the wording and layout.  If you need more information or would like to help please reply to this e-mail.
Great Family Events
February, Friday 25th was the Amazing Family Night at the Manchester Recreation Center.  Coordinator School Health for Manchester City and Coffee County hosted this great family event.  We want to take a moment to thank everyone who helped with this great drug-free family event!

February, Saturday 26th Cat Murray of McMurr's Printing put on a great night of family fun at South Jackson.  A Michael Jackson sing-along was a great way to bring community and families together for a great cause...Farrah Elementary's Music Department.  Another great drug-free family event for our community!
Greetings!

Sticker Shock
Parents Who HostSaturday, February 19th Coalition members took to the streets and sticker shocked a number of our beer vendors.  Vendors were sent letters in late 2010 to participate in our Parents Who Host Lose the Most Campaign.  13 Coalition members stickered approximately 1500 beer cases with the above logo.  It is to serve as a visual reminder to patrons of those responsible stores that teen drinking is not only unacceptable but also illegal.  Tennessee passed a Social Hosting Law in July of 2009.  You will see more and more logos in coming months in the community.  It is our task to change the "norm" in Coffee County that drinking is not only a rite of passage but an acceptable activity for youth.

If you would like a yard sign please reply to this e-mail.  If you would like to participate in the next sticker shock campaign please contact the Coalition.

CCADC Goes to Washington, D.C.
Five adult and two youth coalition members attended the CADCA (Community Anti-Drug Coalition of America) 2011 Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C.  The youth, Caleb Bake and Dylan Johnson took part in the NYLI (National Youth Leadership Initiative).   The NYLI is a mini Coalition Academy.  It is a training the prepares youth to become active and educated participants in community coalition.  The students learned about the SPF (Strategic Prevention Framework), a process that Coffee County Anti-Drug Coalition uses to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate our drug prevention efforts.  An important lesson the students learned is that they are "Change Agents".  They can be and are the driving force for positive change within Coffee County. Please take a look below at articles both students wrote regarding their experience.

While in D.C. the Coalition participated in CADCA's Capitol Hill Day.  Congressman DesJarlais, our newest representative, spent part of his afternoon talking to Caleb, Dylan, Sid Hill, Mike Ray, Lana Ray, Christina Merino and Kristina Clark.  The members spoke of the alcohol, tobacco, and other drug problems facing Coffee County's youth and the efforts of the Coalition.

While on Capitol HIll Kristina and Christina along with approximately 15 other TN Coalition spoke to Senator Corker's and Senator Alexander's aides.  One main topic discussed was the need for a new funding stream for the TN National Guard Counter Drug Task Force.  This program has been decimated due to earmark cuts.  Now many schools within the state will have little to no prevention program for their students.  The Coalitions also discussed the need for "Prevention Champions" on the Hill.  Someone TN call look to who will push forth bills that will increase the alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention efforts within that state of Tennessee and the nation.

Articles from Coffee County Youth Regarding D.C.

Sunday 2/6/11 I got on a plane that would take me to this place that changed a lot in my life. This place is called CADCA. If you are reading this then you should realize it's a poem. Please keep reading, and be taken on a journey of my time in the Gaylord National

 Hotel in Washington D.C.

My experience was something that you can't describe in words. You describe it with: Feelings, Emotions, and Life. Arriving at the hotel to be completely unaware of what the week was going to be about, that is when I began my journey. The journey that everyone I met would remember. Everyone would remember the fun they had with Caleb and I, the way that we touched their lives in a positive way, the way that no one would forget. From first day to the last was filled with positive memories. Even though there was some negative memories that we overcame, at the end we all know Caleb and I represented Tennessee very well. The friends we made will never be forgotten; the lives we touched will never be forgotten. My first day of workshops was like walking into the first day of high school as a freshman. You were filled with excitement even thought you got lost every time you moved locations. The workshops were filled with knowledge to absorb to make the community a better place. We made a video that made parents cry. We ended that day on stage in complete darkness with candles to recognize that, we are the future leaders of America. The experience and knowledge I came there with is nothing compared to the experience, and knowledge I left with. The first days of hello, and happiness to last day of sadness, and goodbyes I have to say Thank you. Thanks to the coalition, Thanks to everyone I met, and Thanks to the people that I have bad memories with. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be where I am right now. As my journey came to an end I remember this quote by the famous Dr. Seuss," Don't be sad because its over be happy that it happened."

Thank you

Sincerely,

Dylan Johnson

CADCA CONFERENCE

Caleb Baker

February 7-10, I had a once in a life time opportunity, a trip to go to a CADCA conference in Washington D.C.  We got to fly up to D.C, so that was its own experience. When we got there, we stayed at the Gaylord National Hotel. We stayed from Sunday to Thursday in this hotel. The conference was unforgettable. From the speakers to sessions, the people we met to the things we learned, the CADCA conference was one to remember. Capitol Hill day was a good day! We met our district representative, and told him about Coffee County's problem, and told him our idea's and the steps we've taken against the problem, which is prescription drugs, inhalants, and alcohol(mainly binge drinking). I learned that not everyone in the country are using drugs and alcohol. I learned how to make a change in our county. I also believe that with the right people, and the right amount of potential, we can be a change agent in Coffee County to stop kids from using prescription drugs, and to stop using and abusing alcohol and inhalants. The conference was amazing. We had the best youth training team they could gather, and I learned a whole lot more than I ever expected to get out of this trip. With the skills I learned, I hope to be able to use them here at home to be able to stop the growing disease we have in Coffee County. I had one of the best times of my life at the conference. We made plenty of friends from around the country, but it was a sad day Thursday when we had to say goodbye and head home. But overall, I learned a lot, and I hope to be able to use the knowledge I learned in the conference here in Coffee County, to make us more drug free, and stop the problem we have.
