I am often asked, "...why don't you publicize your CSA shares as being a terrific Holiday Gift?" So at the risk of being labelled a  shameless marketer, here goes.   Consider giving a friend or loved one a share in our Winter/Spring CSA program. Not only are you giving a great gift of sustainably grown fresh produce, but you are also helping your community, investing in cleaner air and water, and helping support a local family farm! Just send us an email informing us that you would like to purchase a share as a gift and we'll walk you through the process. We'll also send a customized gift card so that your recipient can truly cherish your generosity. Visit this link to learn more about our Winter/Sprng CSA, 2012  More info below.

Fall CSA Shares:  This is week #11, one more week to go. In your shares this week: butternut squash, broccoli, kale, salad mix, grapefruit, beets, and more.

What's Growing?    The colder weather over the past few weeks has resulted in lowering soil temperatures, which slows down plant metabolism. So while it is a balmy 75F as I write, a lot of new planted crops are growing at a "snail's pace," if that. Lethargic growth can also be attributed to the fact that the shortest day of the year is next week, the winter solstice (less sun, less growth.) The good news is that we are continuing to receive moderate rain amounts that are slowly filling our farm ponds back to near normal levels.

SlowMoney: Friday afternoon of last week a small, but eager group of us met in Montrose to explore the reality of developing a Houston chapter of the Slow Money Texas movement.  We were somewhat unanimous in our decision to proceed with creating some bylaws etc and to meet again in mid to late January. Within the next few months, the  group anticipates hosting public meetings that will introduce/educate how those interested in investing in our local community can begin networking with sustainably minded food businesses. We'll definitely keep you posted as to when these meetings evolve.

Winter CSA Program:  Our Winter CSA registration has begun.  The winter program will consist of ten weeks that should ideally begin the first week of February and go to first week of April, give or take.  Our anticipated winter harvest will include cold hardy crops such as cauliflower, spinach, brussells sprouts, carrots, beets, collards, onions, kale, purple kohlrabi, cilantro, radishes, mustard greens, salad mix, broccoli, potatoes, stored winter squash etc. Winter fruit? Hopefully we'll have citrus and strawberries too.  More info to follow.  Visit this link to learn more Winter/Sprng CSA, 2012  So how much comes in a share?
