Wood Duck Farm

Our Update
...a periodic reflection of what's going on at the farm

Wood Duck Farm

November 16th, 2011

Over the past week here at the farm we have received over 3" of rain. That was the good news, the bad news is that when it has rained, it has pored so hard that it pounded the grounds of our new sowings of carrots, beets, chard and spinach. This is not a major deal, but it requires us to overhead water our fields to try and keep the soils soft enough for the seedlings to emerge; otherwise some of our sandy soil types become as hard as a brick.

Prior to this week's rain we were host to students from two area Montesori schools, Kingwood & Livingston. We provided a tour of the farm, via a hayride (gosh that hay is expensive,) and followed up with a lunch that included our salad greens, warm bread and smoked turkey. You could tell that all the kids really enjoyed being outside.

Farm Open House, Saturday Dec. 3rd  As mentioned previously, we plan on having an open house here at the farm this fall season.  We conducted an unofficial tally and it appears that the Dec 3rd timeframe is best. That works for us too, so consider marking it on your calendar.  Times are unofficially, 1:30-4:30.  FYI we are about one hr. north of Houston, 25 mins from Kingwood and 30 mins from the Woodlands. ( Directions and maps can be found on our website.) Wish to visit our farm, but not a CSA member? Not to worry, you're invited to our open house too!
