Wood Duck Farm

Our Update
...a periodic reflection of what's going on at the farm

Wood Duck Farm

October22nd, 2010

Dry weather continues to be the "theme" here at the farm. We can irrigate, but it is not a replacement for a good soaking of rain. The second week of the CSA went pretty good.  Shares received an assortment of veggies including the following:

Green Beans

Okra

Bell Pepper

Tomatoes

Summer Squash

Cucumbers

Baby Arugula and/or Salad Mix

What's Growing?   We plant extra greens to compensate for the cooler nights and then the weather reverts back to summer conditions and everything speeds up again. The result, we have a lot of greens needing to be harvested at the same time.  Not a bad problem to have, but it creates yet another challenge.   On another front, the deer are really playing havoc with our squash and cucumbers as they're eating the plants, leaves, stalk, and all. We have electric fencing, but the dry weather does not provide the "ground" necessary to provide the shock from the fence. Go figure huh?
