CareGiver Survival
According to AARP there are nearly 44 million Americans taking care of an older family member.
Here are 8 tips for new caregivers from AARP Caregiving Resource Center, www.aarp.org:
1. Start with a conversation with your parents about how you will be helping them and encourage them to discuss their concerns.
2. Set priorities - make a list of what needs to get done.
3. Build a support network
4. Don't be afraid to delegate.
5. Offer alternatives if you can't be the primary caretaker.
6. Hold family meetings
7. Involve your children and encourage their questions.
8. Talk to your spouse and encourage discussions about roles and responsibilities.
A Caregiver Support Group with the Alzheimer's Association meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month at Willow Towers Assisted Living.

Heroes Among Us

Anthony Nardozzi, Sr.
We are proud of the many amazing residents that are our unsung heroes. Anthony Nardozzi, World War II veteran , won the Purple Heart for his injuries and heroism. As a radio operator, his B24 plane was shot down near France and after parachuting out, was captured by enemy forces. As a P.O.W., he was on an infamous "forced march" with hundreds of soldiers at gunpoint while holding up a fellow soldier who was too weak to walk. Tony's family did not know if he was alive for four months. Tony has so many incredible stories to tell and his fascinating life history is just one example of what makes United Hebrew shine. Thanks for sharing with us, Tony. |
