 | June 9 Chapter Meeting | |
Join SN-ICC June 9 for the chapter's next monthly meeting. This meeting will feature Randy Hunter with Cooper Bussmann. Hunter will provide a one-hour overview on selective coordination of emergency systems. His presentation will cover what such systems are, code requirements, where they should be applied, and how they are enforced. Types of selectively coordinated systems will be briefly described, as well as why they're important, especially related to the unique properties encountered in the Las Vegas Valley. SN-ICC will provide 0.1 CEUs to attendees. SN-ICC meetings start at 11:30 a.m. and generally end at 1 p.m. Meetings are held at Sierra Gold, 6515 S. Jones Blvd. (215 & Jones), Las Vegas, 89118, on the second floor.

Upcoming Meeting Information:
- July 14: Stephen DiGiovanni, P.E., from the Clark County Fire Department, will give a half-hour overview of the Southern Nevada Consensus Amendments to the 2009 International Fire Code. This presentation will be tailored to amendments that individuals primarily involved in building codes will be interested in. (See article titled "Classes Offered to Prepare for July 5 Code Change" below for information on a June 28 CEU opportunity involving Southern Nevada Fire Code Amendments.)

 Effective July 5, all building plans submitted to Southern Nevada jurisdictions must be in accordance with the 2008/2009 codes and area amendments.  | Classes Offered to Prepare for July 5 Code Change | |
SN-ICC and Clark County are offering several classes to help code officials and industry representatives prepare for the upcoming code change.
Click on the links below for more information about the various classes, including registration instructions and any associated fees.
In addition to the upcoming classes, on May 10, Clark County Principal Engineer Scott Telford and Manager Ted Droessler, on behalf of SN-ICC, provided an overview of the 2009 Southern Nevada Amendments to the structural and grading portions of the International Building Code. The session was well attended by building department staff and industry representatives. |

High school students participating in SN-ICC's inaugural internship hold certificates of completion. |
SN-ICC's Board of Directors held a commencement ceremony on May 17 to honor all individuals who helped make the chapter's first High School Internship Program a success. The ceremony was attended by participating students, school coordinators and mentors.
Each of the participating students received a certificate of achievement. For recognition of their support, mentoring agencies were awarded a plaque.
Twelve students from three of the local technical high schools participated in the program. Our mentoring agencies were Pugsley/Simpson/Coulter/Architects, Lochsa Engineering, JBA Consulting Engineers, the city of North Las Vegas - Building Safety, and Clark County Development Services.
