 | SN-ICC Set to Donate $10,500 Toward Teaching Toddlers to Swim |
| |
Ron Lynn (3rd from left) and Fulton Cochran (5th from left) present the Clark County Commission with a $1500 check. | For the third year in a row, SN-ICC will provide $1500 grants to the parks and recreation departments of each of Southern Nevada's jurisdictions to provide free swimming lessons for toddlers.
Throughout March and April, SN-ICC Immediate Past President Fulton Cochran will present $1500 checks to Southern Nevada's various city councils and the Clark County Commission following the schedule below. - March 1 - Clark County Commission
- March 2 - North Las Vegas
- March 8 - Boulder City
- March 15 - Henderson
- March 22 - Pahrump
- April 12 - Mesquite
Additionally, Chris Knight, the building official for the city of Las Vegas, will present the $1500 grant to the Las Vegas City Council at a future meeting once the chapter's donation has been added to the council's agenda. SN-ICC members can be proud to note that they are part of an organization that has taken a proactive approach to reducing Southern Nevada's high child drowning rate. Annually, approximately 8 children less than 4-years-old drown in Southern Nevada's 100,000+ backyard swimming pools. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death among our children. In the absence of a state law requiring secondary barriers for all residential pools, SN-ICC is helping to teach more than 400 toddlers to swim each year in an attempt to bring attention to the seriousness of this issue and save lives. |

 | Home Builders Association Salutes Local Building Officials |
| | Nat Hodgson stands in the middle of local building officials (left to right) Chris Knight, Las Vegas; Ron Lynn, Clark County; Greg Blackburn, North Las Vegas; and Michael Bouse, Henderson. |
By Monica Caruso SNHBA Director of Public Relations
The Southern Nevada Home Builders Association has honored the Las Vegas Valley's top four building officials for their outstanding contributions to the community and the home building industry.
The association's 2010 President Nat Hodgson of Pulte Homes presented 2010 President's Special Awards to Ron Lynn of Clark County, Mike Bouse of Henderson, Chris Knight of Las Vegas, and Greg Blackburn of North Las Vegas.
"We are fortunate in our community to have professional building officials of the highest caliber," Hodgson said. "The four building officials we honor today have provided valuable services to the community and our industry, particularly over the past year of hard work on code adoption. These building officials are highly deserving of our tribute."
The awards were presented during the association's annual Installation of Officers and Directors/President's Appreciation Awards Luncheon in December at the Four Seasons Hotel.
Founded in 1953 by 12 local home builders and incorporated with the state of Nevada in 1954, the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association ranks as the oldest and largest local trade organization representing the residential construction industry. It has approximately 300 members who work in all facets of the home building industry. |
